Ghost @ The Marquis Theatre, Denver, CO 2012-01-27

Say, can you see the cross?
Inverted solemly
Symbol for the goat
Of a thousand young

Six Six Six

I haven't enjoyed a metal show this much in a long time.  If the music wasn't so hooky and good it might come of as ridiculous.  Well it's a little ridiculous but that's what makes it so fun.   I had high hopes that it would be a good show and they were more then met.

Shane Sweeney and Micah Schnabel @ The 404, Denver, CO 2011-07-22

This show took place at iconic dive bar in Denver the 404.  In the time since this show happened the 404 has closed it's doors.  This show will remain one of my favorite memories of the place.
Micah and Shane both came to town for the UMS to promote their then unreleased solo albums.  Hence their sets are really heavy with that matierial.  Though Micah does pull out one Two Cow Garage song for the gathered crowd.  I was really pleased with how the recording came out but have been sitting on it to give the solo records some time to make a splash.  I hope you enjoy it.

The Goddamn Gallows @ 3 Kings Tavern, Denver, CO 2011-10-16

The Goddamn Gallows are a great band from Lansing Michigan by way of a lot of places.  One part psychobilly, one part punk, one part Americana (whatever that is).  They are equally at home cranking out their rocking originals or doing a choice cover of Townes Van Zandt or Venom.  Super fun high energy show.

This recording is their set at Three Kings Tavern back in October.  Check it out.

Mojo Nixon @ The Lion's Lair, 1999-08-26

I saw Mojo Nixon again not long after this show when he played at the now long gone LODO music fest.  He was walking across the the asphalt in front of all the stages when I saw him and called out to him.  We welcomed him to Denver and he asked if we had seen him at the Lion's Lair the summer before.

I told him that I had indeed seen that show and was excited to she him preform again that night.  He then says "Some crazy fool posted that Lion's Lair show online complete with a track called "Mojo Takes A Shit" ".  I asked him if he was OK with that and he said "I don't care I'm not some asshole like Metallica!"

Then I told him that I was the person that recorded the show and showed him my recording gear.  He smiled and said that it was cool.  Then he asked me if I had any drugs.  I was not holding so we wished each other well and away he went.

The recording today is from that Lion's Lair show and as alluded to earlier he indeed leaves the stage mid song to go take a shit.  If any of you have ever been to the Lion's Lair before you know that the bathroom isn't a pretty site.  There is no door on the stall and it can't have been very clean.

Mojo ever the professional came right back to the stage after a few minutes and picked up right where he left off.  This was one of the funnest shows that I have ever seen.

This show was one of the very first things I ever had posted back in the early days of high speed internet.  I traded it out on CDR to several people and one of them that ran a Mojo Nixon fan page had it on his site.  This is a new fresh transfer from the original minidiscs and knowing what I know now I think it is a big improvement.

Murder City Devils @ The Starlight, Ft Collins, CO 2000-03-11

These guys were a force of nature on a tiny stage.  I was lucky enough to catch them when they were a rock and roll beast.  Like and angry rooster with blades on it's feet cutting everything up in it's path..  This post documents a cold March weekend back in 2000.  Doesn't seem like it was 11 year ago but I guess it was.

The main recording is of the show MCD played at the greatly loved, and greatly missed, Starlight in Ft Collins Colorado.  Tacked on to the end are a few tracks from the night before at the also greatly loved and much missed 15th Street Tavern.

The doors were at 3:30 or so and MCD played about 5.  It was weird being in a bar watching rock and roll so early.  They played so early because The Royal Crown Revue was playing later that night at the same venue.  Anybody remember the swing revival?  Yeah that's what I thought.  I also thought they were dicks for making The Amazing Royal Crowns change their name.  Anyway....

Here is my recording of the night with some extra songs from the 15th Street Tavern the night before.

Lydia Loveless @ Hi Dive, Denver, CO 2011-11-12

Became a big fan of this lady in short order.  Clever song writing and she plays a telecaster.  What's not to love.  If you haven't heard of her go find her stuff and buy it up right now.  Saying she's kind of a more white trashy Neko Case might be a fitting description.

The crowd kind of sucked and was really chatty.  At one point before she starts a song Lydia can be heard to say, kind of under her breath to the inattentive crowd, "And then what happened?"

Maybe they were all there to see Centro Matic and didn't know who she was.  If you don't care enough to watch the band with out loud talking for the entire set, don't stand in front of the stage and yap yap yap.  Go stand by the bar at least.  It's fucking rude.

Tin Horn Prayer Live @ 3 Kings Tavern, 2011-06-25

Tin Horn Prayer quickly has become one my very favorite homegrown bands.  From the first time I saw them play I was hooked.  They are made up of guys from lots of great bands, Pinhead Circus, Only Thunder, Blackout Pact, to name a few.  I guess you could call them folk punk for lack of a better genre tag.
This show is from a Tom Waits themed showcase of bands that all paid tribute to the man in their own ways.  We get treated to a couple Tom Waits covers from the Tin Horn Prayer boys.  Check it out and enjoy.

Tin Horn Prayer  is
Mike Herrera, Andy Thomas, Scooter James, Ethan Steenson, Dan Gilbert, Eric Epling
