Lucero @ The Gothic & Fox Theatres, Colorado, October 2007

Back in 2017 I posted Lucero's Colorado summer or 2007 tour stop at the Westword Music Fest.  Well those road dogs just didn't stop back in those days.  So here are the 2 October 2007 Colorado shows they played.   There go along with the Bobby Bare Jr sets I recently posted.

At the Englewood show we get a pretty sober Ben and a monster 2 hour long set with some really choice cuts from their entire catalog.  Along with a couple of fun covers back to back.  Bill Wither's 'Ain't No Sunshine' and The Replacements 'If Only You Were Lonely'

The Boulder show has Ben a bit looser.  There are some flubs which in retrospect I recall thinking it was a bit of a shit show.  Listening back 14 year later it is still a pretty good performance and that is what you got back then.  You would hope for hungover Ben not drunk Ben.  Ben and the band have all matured and have families these days so their shows are no longer a roll of the dice these days.

So despite it's looseness I think the Boulder set is still worth a listen.  Just look at that setlist!!  Big props to Lucero for being a band that mixed it up and didn't just play the same set night after night.  There are some repeats but different song order and some deep cuts we didn't get the night before.

Really nice sound on these I think.  The Englewood show was recorded from the balcony next to the soundboard and the Boulder show I ran a really tall stand.  Enjoy.

Lucero @ Westword Music Showcase, Denver CO, 2007-06-16

Here is Lucero at the Westword Music Showcase playing right before Dinosaur Jr back in 2007.
Ben Nichols even comments about how excited he is to see them.

The were on tour for the Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers album.  No horn section yet but Rick Steff is on keyboard.

Fun setlist with some now classic tunes.  Tears Don't Matter Much is a barn burner!!

Good tight rock n roll from these road dogs on this evening.  And early enough to ensure that the band wasn't as loose as they might have been at a late night show during this era.

Great to see that 10 years on from this show they are bigger than ever and still writing fantastic rock n roll songs.  Cheers to Lucero.

Lucero @ The Gothic, Englewood, CO 2006-10-21

Here is a really nice sounding Lucero show from what might have been the height of my fandom.  I was obsessed with this band at the time.  I'm still a big fan but my fandom has cooled off a little bit.  This was on the tour for Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers so it's pre horns and that old familiar twang was still intact for the most part.  Not bagging on what they have evolved into.  They are still an amazing band.

Added bonus in addition to the Gothic show is a Ben Nichols solo set from Independent Records earlier in the day.  I had forgotten how great that one sounded.  Surprised I hadn't shared it before now.

As always go support the bands you love by seeing them live and giving them your money.
They are working hard for you.  They are coming back to Colorado for a 3 night stand at the Gothic for a New Year celebration.  It's going to be a barn burner.

Lucero @ The Black Sheep, Colorado Springs, CO 2012-04-01

I was so glad to see this turn up.  I went up to Ft Collins to catch Lucero on this string of Colorado dates but I didn't record since it was my birthday and I just wanted to hang with the wife and have fun.  Not that taping isn't fun.
Then I heard that all the tapers got shot down by the Bluebird management, even though Lucero is generally a taper friendly band, for the Denver shows.
Lucky for us my buddy down in Colorado Springs was on the ball and made this great recording of the Sunday night show.  Hats of to Chuck Miller for letting me share this with you all. Enjoy
