Split Lip Rayfield @ Aggie Theater, Fort Collins CO, 2006-09-31

I'm a huge Split Lip Rayfield fan and caught 2 of their 2006 Colorado shows on Kirk's last tour.  I must have downloaded this Ft Collins show from COTapers.  Not sure.  All these years latter I was cleaning out a stack of CDRs and DVDs with various stuff on them and ran across this show.

I pulled it off to listen to it and it is really nice.  Taper Eric Wilkens did a great job capturing this.  I also noticed that this show wasn't up on the SLR LMA page so I tagged all the files and got it posted up there.  No other edits were done to Eric's files other than tagging them and reconfiguring the ingo files.  Figured I might as well share it around.  Enjoy.

Split Lip Rayfield @ Fox Theatre, Boulder CO, 2006-09-01

I posted the Bluebird Denver show from the last 2006 tour that Kirk Rundstrom did in Split Lip Rayfield awhile back.  But for some unknown reason I never posted this show from the day before.  I think out of the two this one from the Fox Theatre in Boulder sounds the best.

At this show their walk on music was Megadeth's "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!".  A fitting intro since they were killing it on this tour.  They don't get called Thrashgrass for nothing.  Enjoy

Split Lip Rayfield @ Quixotes, Denver CO, 2008-01-18

I first saw Split Lip Rayfield in 2004 at the Larimer Lounge.  I had been planning on going to see Wayne 'The Train' Hancock that night at the Lion's Lair but he canceled.  A friend had already made it downtown to see that show too so I suggested that we go check out Split Lip Rayfield instead.

We biked on over there from Cap Hill and had our minds blown.  I was an instant fan.  I think all their albums are great and worth seeking out if your a fan of some frantic bluegrass.  Really good song writing too.

Sadly they lost one of the main members Kirk Rundstrom to cancer in 2007.  After taking a much needed breather.  They returned to the road in 2008 as a tribute to Kirk.   This show was from that tour at Quixotes True Blue in Denver CO.

In more recent bad news SLR member Wayne Gottstine also is having a bout with cancer.  Go seek out some official band product, or I bet he might have a kickstarter, if you so inclined to send some support to the band or him directly.

Hell of a setlist on this cold night back in 2008.  I had remembered this one as being not so good with a shitty crowd.  Time has faded whatever perceived faults I thought this had.  The crowd is pretty rowdy but it doesn't  over power the music.  Enjoy.

Split Lip Rayfield @ Larimer Lounge, 2005-04-01 & 02

Here is a treat I had kinda forgotten about.  Sick day at home so I was poking around on a backup drive and found these 2005 Split Lip Rayfield shows at the Larimer Lounge.  They played two nights in a row and were on fire.

In my opinion this is them at the height of their powers.  Wasn't the same after Kirk died.

These aren't the complete shows but are only missing a song or too and the soundboard audio mix is really nice.  Had a fantastic time revisiting these today.  Enjoy.

Split Lip Rayfield @ The Bluebird, 2006-09-02

Wow it has been 6 years since this show.  Doesn't seem that long at all.  I was obsessed with this band from the very first time that I saw them.  Just an electrifying live act.  If you not familiar with the band I have described them in the past as the Slayer of bluegrass.  Due to both the speed at which they play and some of the songs subject matter.  Some pretty dark stuff for such happy sounding music.  Right up my alley though so no wonder it clicked.

This show is from their last tour with Kirk Rundstrom in the band.  He found out he had esophageal cancer on the eve of an previous Denver show.  He underwent treatment but when the prognosis didn't change he decided to stop the therapy that was just making him sick and go on tour.  He look frail but he was smiling and really gave it his all.  Rest In Peace Kirk.  You are missed.
