The Gourds @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2002-09-07

I would call myself a fan of The Gourds.  They are a bluegrassy americana country band,  They got some traction in the early aughts with their cover of Snoop Dogg's song "Gin and Juice".  Often miss attributed to Subline or others.   If they played that at this show I don't know.  As I only captured the first 49 minutes for some reason.

I can't recall why this is abbreviated but I also can't even remember going to this show what so ever.  In my defense this was over twenty years ago and in the early aughts I was going to well over 100 shows a year.  What I did capture sounds pretty good I think.  They say from the stage that this was their first show in Denver ever.  I recall that they came back again next year.  They have been on hiatus since 2013.  Enjoy.

Meat Wave @ Lost Lake, Denver CO, 2022-11-09

Meat Wave put out a killer new album this year called Malign Hex.  It is an album that had me hooked from note one and is right up there with my favorite albums of 2022.

Lucky for me they rolled into Denver not long after I started playing the LP over and over.  Not surprisingly they are a fantastic live band as well.  They played songs from across their catalog and handled an equipment malfunction better than almost any band I have ever seen.  Looking forward to seeing them live again someday.  Enjoy.

The Black Halos @ The Bluebird, Denver CO, 2000-05-23

I been thinking about and listening to The Black Halos a lot lately since they just dropped a brand new album called 'How The Darkness Doubled'.  It is a rousing return with Rich Jones, Billy Hopeless, and Jay Millette all back in the fold.  Check it out on all your musical avenues.  It's rocks!  Great production too.  I'm loving it.

This 2000 Denver Black Halos show at the Bluebird had them opening up for L7.  Which I posted a while back.  HERE

They would have still been touring behind the self titled album in 2000.  The do play a few songs from the upcoming 2001 album The Violent Years.  Sound is pretty decent I think.  Billy has a lot of fun stage banter.  Enjoy.

Hank III @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2002-02-02

Here is another Hank III show from the early aughts. It doesn't feel like it was 20 years ago.  This was a Hank III headlining show where he played a 20 song country set before going into the Assjack stuff.

I think this one sounds really nice too.  I believe Tom brought out the Neuman microphones for this show.  The really make a nice capture.

I'm certain I traded this out on CDR back in the day.  This is a fresh transfer from the master.  I didn't do much to adjust the audio since it sounded so good.  Newly tracked and tagged.  I would consider this an upgrade if you have it already.  Enjoy.

Melvins @ Fox Theatre, Boulder CO, 2001-05-07

Melvins were on tour for the Electroretard album.  Kevin Rutmanis was on bass still.  They opened up with an abbreviated version of "Colossus of Destiny" which they released later that year as a stand alone album featuring a live recording of an extended noise experimental set they recorded in 1998.  My recording fades in on it so I must have missed the beginning.  It's not nearly as torturous at that album.

Hell of a setlist for this performance.  I think I might have some how missed the last two songs.  Setlist FM has Hung Bunny and Roman Bird Dog listed as being played last on this night.  That might be the case but since it was over 20 years ago now I don't recall.

Melvins were/are taper friendly and the Fox Theatre always was so my friend Tom and I ran a tall stand in the great sounding Fox and I think this came out really nice.  Enjoy.

Hank III & Assjack @ Fox Theatre, Boulder CO, 2001-05-07

This is from a run of shows that Hank III and Assjack did with the Melvins.  Hank III had shown up on the Melvins covers album Crybaby the year before so this wasn't as crazy of a pairing as it might have seemed.  He warns the crowd that if they came for the country music they are going to be disappointed.  He gives them a little taste with the first 3 songs and then it goes hard.

Maybe my favorite era of Assjack.  Kick ass band line up for these shows.  Hank III, Melvins, and the Fox were all taper friendly so we ran a tall stand for this one.  Sounds really nice I think.

I'm going to post the Melvins set from this night tomorrow.

Hayseed Dixie @ Fox Theatre, Boulder CO, 2002-06-21

Was looking for something new to post and remembered this show from back in 2002.  These guys recorded a bluegrass tribute to AC/DC on a lark in 2001 and it was so well done and fun that it garnered a lot of attention and they ended up touring behind it and recording a bunch of other albums over the years.

Right before this show at the Fox they had just played the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  So they weren't just some jokey novelty act.  People took them seriously in that world. Well maybe until they heard them play their song "I'm Keeping Your Poop".

This was an "evening with" if I recall so no opener and the band played two sets.  I've melded it all into one but I think the set break was after TNT.

The Fox always sounded great and it was fun to revisit this show.  Enjoy.
