PJ Harvey @ Macky Auditorium, Boulder CO, 1995-10-05

Here is another excellent MarcR recording.  This time an a 'To Bring You My Love' era PJ Harvey show from October 5th 1995 at Macky Auditorium in Boulder Colorado.

Great setlist and performance.  I dug around to see if I could find this anywhere and found it on one blog fan site where it was called "Straight Outta Boulder".  Did find and sign that this had been shared or had been a bootleg CD.  1995 was a long time ago now.

Enjoy.

The Church and Ed Hardcourt @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 2024-07-02

Here are the booked sets for the Afghan Whigs show I recently posted.  Ed Hardcourt plays with the Afghan Whigs on this tour so his opening set slowly blended in to theirs.  More and more of the AWs joined him onstage until Greg Dulli came out to sing on Ed's song Broken Keys with everyone.  Right after that is were the AW recording starts.  I liked Ed's set.  He plays guitar and keyboards and has an interesting way with words.

I feel like I may have seen the Church before but never knew anything but the hits.  They have been a band since 1980 and have a ton of album.  I had no idea that they had written a concept album about a future where Antarctica is good real-estate and the most popular rock star of the day possesses a musical weapon that could destroy the world.  Way to keep it fresh and interesting for them.  Enjoy.

Afghan Whigs @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 2024-07-02

In their heyday I certainly had heard of the Afghan Whigs and must have heard some songs but it just wasn't something that clicked.  Over the years it became apparent that this was an important band who I should delve into but it just never happened.  Too many bands and not enough time.  During the pandemic I had a strange encounter with a gentleman who had a CDR copy of my Paul Westerberg Ogden recording that I had posted about needing since my original WAV file was lost and my CDR copy was bad.  He had gotten it from some Lion's Lair connection and after finding my blog contacted me.   I met him at the big storage castle on Colfax and ended up buying a stack of 30+ CDs from the guy for $1 a piece.  One of them was Afghan Whigs - Gentleman. Hearing it as an adult instead of a 20 year old it just hit different.  It was about the only thing I listened to for weeks.

Needless to say I never saw them live in the 90s and once I became a fan they toured pretty sporadically and I missed a couple chances.  Looked like I was going to miss this one too but an acquaintance was looking to get rid of his tickets for this show so I took the plunge.  Glad I did because of course they were fantastic.  If and when I get my time machine I'm going to go catch some 90s Afghan Whigs shows but until then this will have to suffice.

This was a co headlining tour with The Church.  Ed Hardcourt opened the show and was slowly joined onstage by Afghan Whigs band members until Greg Dulli came out too and sang part of one of Ed's songs. Then it transitioned into the Afghan Whigs set.  That is where this recording starts.

I think this turned out pretty nice and there was a sparse crowd so not very much chatter.  Enjoy.

Opeth @ Odgen Theatre, Denver CO, 2005-10-18

Here is a recording of Swedish metal band Opeth that my friend Bill Tatina (aka Twister) made back in 2005. They were on tour for Ghost Reveries at the time.  I caught them earlier in the year as part of the Sounds Of The Underground tour.

I found these files recently on a DVD that Bill had burned for me.  I thought it sounded pretty nice so I figured I would share them.  I couldn't find any trace that he had torrented this before but the setlist was on setlist FM.  So he might have traded out DAT copies.  Not sure.  Enjoy.

Boston @ Fiddler's Green, Greenwood Village CO, 1995-07-26

Here is another MarcR recording from 1995.  This time classic rock kings Boston live at Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre.  This was the "Livin' For You" tour and vocals are handled by original vocalist Brad Delp with some help on the high notes.

Fiddlers is not my favorite venue by a long shot but I have seen some good shows there.  I was not expecting this to sound very good given the venue but I think it is really nice.  Not much crowd chatter except during a couple of the quieter numbers.  Lots of Whoo boys in between songs.

I didn't see this show but I caught Boston back in 88 and they put on a solid rock n roll show.  Fun listening to this one and getting it ready to post.  Enjoy.

Redd Kross @ Marquis Theatre, Denver CO, 2024-07-13

My first time seeing Redd Kross was just a couple weeks ago.  With Dale Crover on drums.  Dale also sat at his drums and DJ'd for a bit and then played a bunch of songs on an acoustic. Fun show in the intimate Marquis.  Small crowd too for a Saturday night.  Ya missed out.

Redd Kross has a new album out and played some songs from it but the setlist spans the catalog.  Great live introduction to the band for me.  Enjoy.

Unwound @ Fox Theatre, Boulder CO, 1995-03-27

One of the best things about music is that more of it has been created and documented than any one person could ever listen to in their lifetime.  That means if you are a fan and care to explore there is always something new to discover.  I had heard the name Unwound over the years.  And in context with other things I liked.  I just never had or took the chance to check them out.

After hearing MarcR's nice Unwound recording I was blown away and immediately went and searched out their catalog.  They have most all of it up on bandcamp so it was pretty easy to start digging in. As my luck would have it.  The band is playing shows this year and coming to Colorado in October.  Hooray!!
