The Obsessed @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2024-04-01

Wino is one of those guitar players who just has his own tone.  And it's not the gear.  Wino could pick up and play any guitar and it would sound like him.

Last time I caught The Obsessed was back in 2016 at HQ.  Was excited to see them return to my now favorite room the Hi Dive earlier this year.  Nice set of new and old songs.    I think this sounds real nice so enjoy.

Soul Coughing @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 1995-09-26

Here is another 1995 Soul Coughing show that MarcR recorded.  This time September 26th 1995.
This was a headlining set that has the band Low opening.

Great setlist and the audio is pretty good but 1995 was pre any acoustic improvements to the Ogden.  It was a big boomy barn.  Mike Doughty comments on it right away.  Before they start he says "the fabulous echo in this room makes me want to do sinister laughter".   Later he calls it "an airplane hanger".  It's a great show it just sounds like the Ogden used to sound.

I realized that Soul Coughing was on the LMA yesterday so I put this show and the May show I posted last up on there.  Enjoy.

Soul Coughing @ Bluebird Theatre, Denver CO, 1995-05-10

Here is another MarcR recording from the mid 90s.  Soul Coughing just announced that they are getting back together for some shows this year.  Figured it would be a perfect time to post up one of the Soul Coughing show Marc recorded.

He captured this one of them opening for Jeff Buckley at the Bluebird and he recorded them when they returned later in the 1995 to headline the Ogden.  Mike Doughty likens the Ogden to an airplane hanger in regard to it's acoustics at the time.  He was not wrong.  I'll get that one posted up too but this Bluebird show sounds real nice so it get's posted first.  Enjoy!

200 Stab Wounds @ HQ, Denver CO, 2022-08-31

200 Stab Wounds are straight up death metal.  Formed in 2019 in Cleveland Ohio these young upstarts have been touring like crazy all these years and putting out killer material.  I randomly picked this show to post today and low and behold I see later that they have a new album coming out soon.  Great news!  I'll look forward to catching them live again.

This show at HQ in Denver was part of a bill with Spirit World and Creeping Death.  I think it sounds pretty good and was a fun show so here you go.

As always go support your favorite independent artist anyway you can. They work hard to make all this cool music an art.  Show them some love.

Neds Atomic Dustbin @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 1995-08-06

Here is another MarcR recording.  This time Ned's Atomic Dustbin at the Ogden Theatre in Denver Colorado on August 6th 1995. They were on tour for their new album Brainbloodvolume.  They play a lot of songs off of that record and plead with the crowd to buy it.  They ended up splitting up at the end of this tour in NYC.

Sound is pretty good on this as are all of Marc's tapes.  Look forward to more of these 1995 gems being posted here.

Siouxsie and the Banshees @ Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, Irvine CA, 1986-06-14

Here is another show from the Kat George cassette archive.   This time another Siouxsie and the Banshees show.  This time on the 1986 Tinderbox tour.  Lots of songs from that album in the setlist.  This is an incomplete recording of the show

Sounds isn't amazing on this one but it's listenable.  I didn't so a super deep dive but I didn't see any other sources of this show out there.  Certainly Kat's recording has never been shared anywhere before.

The Presidents of the United States of America @ Mercury Cafe, Denver CO, 1995-10-07

Recently I received a box of DATs from another taper.  This has happened before to me.  People get out of the hobby and eventually decide to part with their media and masters.   Often they have shared the recordings to some degree but sometimes the recordings are uncirculated.

In this case it's a mixed bag.  This PUSA show is from a batch of shows that was recorded but MarcR.  He ran MarcSounds in the 90s and manufactured and sold some very well liked stealth mics to lots of people.  Of the batch of tapes I received some appear to have been shared over the years.  Like the PJ Harvey at Mackey show seems to have been shared in the 90s.  This PUSA show on the other hand I don't think have ever been shared.  MarcR made some pretty nice recordings and I'm excited to share some of these with y'all.  Most all of my batch is shows from 1995 in Denver.

The Mercury is still around and still hosting shows.  The original owner Marilyn Megenity started it in 1975 at a different location.  She hosted lots of early punk rock shows in Denver there including The Misfits.  It moved to it's current location in 1990 and continued to serve up it's great food and host bands in it's 300 cap ballroom.

PUSA was riding starting to enjoy the success of their odd hit single Peaches and pack the Mercury.  They only had the one album out at the time but the crowd got treated to multiple new songs including "Toob Amplifier" which they mention they wrote the day before.  Some fantastic covers to including the Willie Nelson song "Devil In A Sleepin' Bag" which they covered for the Twisted Willie comp.

MarcR did a great job with this capture and I think it sounds really nice.  I did minimal post production on it.  Enjoy.

Fu Manchu @ Bluebird Theatre, Denver CO, 2002-02-05

Fu Manchu is a band I have seen a bunch of times over the years starting in the 90s.  They are still at it too.  Started in 1990 that is a hell of a run.  In fact they have a new double album coming out next week.  Love to see the longevity.

This show was for the California Crossing album tour and we get a bunch of songs of of that and some old classics.  Scott Hill complains about having to play so quite later in their set.  Probably after the sound guy scolded them for turning up.  At the time the Bluebird didn't have great sound abatement and had nearby neighbors that loved to complain.  They would even call and say it was too loud when a show wasn't going on.  The Bluebird got hit with some noise ordinance violations and had to stay at 100db.   Pretty quiet.    They weren't happy but I think this sounds pretty good.  Maybe the best of my handful of Fu recordings.  Enjoy.
