...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead

This is the only time I have seen  ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.  They were part of a killer line up opening for Queens Of The Stone Age along with Peaches.

AYWKUBTTOD was on tour for their Source Tags & Codes album and they play a lot of songs from that but they play stuff from all 3 albums that they had out at the time.

I've posted both the Peaches and QOTSA sets already.  Figured it was time to get this one up.
Enjoy

OFF! @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, December 8th and 9th 2022

That Keith Morris is still at it after all these years and still making vital important art is amazing.  OFF! have really created something cool with their new album Free LSD and upcoming connected movie project.   I can't wait to see it.

When OFF! announced two shows in Denver to start their tour for this new album I was super excited.  Bought my tickets right away.  They have a new line up for this album and tour.  Autry Fulbright II on bass who played with ...And You Will Know Us From the Trail Of Dead & Justin Brown on drums who has played with a lot of heavyweights including Thundercat.

Since Free LSD is a concept album it made sense that they were going to play the whole thing.  Interestingly they don't play the songs in the same order as they are on the album,   Both nights were basically the same with the only minor change being were the S interlude pause was.

I think both of these sound really nice so enjoy.

Drag The River @ The Clubhouse, Tempe AZ, 2004-02-05

One one hand this doesn't seem that long ago but so much has changed in the almost 20 years since I went to this show.  Back in 2004 I was such a big Drag The River fan that I saw they were opening for Throw Rag, another favorite, down in Tempe Arizona that I drove all the way down there to catch it.

The Throw Rag set is here  THROW RAG

Back in 2004 and the early aughts DTR played out a lot.  These days Jon and Chad are pretty much doing their own things and hope of a DTR show is pretty slim.  Though they did play at someone's wedding last year.  So never say never I guess.

I believe that they had just put out Chicken Demos CD.  Jon talks about having something new but doesn't name it.  Since this was a opening set it only clocks in at just over 30 minutes.  Which as DTR shows go is really short.   This was short but sweet.  They squeeze a bunch of good songs into that time.

I have posted some other DTR shows but I had lost track of this one in all my minidisc masters.  Last year I went through all off them.  Got them organized and transferred so I have access to everything.  I rediscovered this gem and a bunch of others.

This recording is a board feed.  Vocals are front and center but the rest of the mix isn't bad  I've enjoyed revisiting this one a lot this week.  I hope you dig it.

Spirit World @ HQ, Denver CO, 2022-08-31

I first caught Spirit World opening up Obituary and Municipal Waste on the February 2022 Decibel Magazine tour at the Gothic.  I had heard some buzz about them but hadn't listened too them yet,  I made sure to get there early so that I didn't miss them.  Was an instant fan.  The country and western trappings put some people off but Spirit World goes hard.  Screamy vocals, with hardcore breakdowns and Slayer sounding riffs.  I dig it.   Live they are really high energy.

They have a killer new album out called Death Western and I'm sure they will be out hitting the road hard to spread the word.  I look forward to catching them again.

This was a big show night for me.  Elder, Bezelbong, and Dreadnaught were across the street at Hi Dive and Spirit World, 200 Stab Wounds, and Creeping Death were at HQ.  I was able to record both shows since they are so close and while I mostly watched the Hi Dive show I caught some of everyone.  Fun night.

Unsane @ Larimer Lounge, Denver CO, 2003-10-16

I've been a big Unsane fan since I first heard them in the mid 90s.  I go to see them anytime I can. In fact they are coming to HQ in Denver on February 22nd on the Early Cuts tour.  Can't wait.

This October 2003 Larimer Lounge show was a make up show for a May 2003 show that got canceled because the drummer broke his collar bone in a motorcycle accident.  Chris talks about it early in the set.  Below is the poster for that canceled show.  It was a bummer because I really wanted to see JJ Paradise Players Club.

For this October tour the were on the road with Turbo ACs.  Really fun show.  The setlist is all over the catalog but they do a bunch of songs from Occupational Hazard which is cool.  Some of the Turbo AC guys join the band for their last song Get Off My Back.

Back in 2003 the FOH booth used to be on the right hand side and closer to the stage.  Great spot for getting a lot of direct stage sound and a PA speaker right in front for the vocal mix.  Made a bunch of good recording from that spot.  Including this one.  Enjoy

Obituary @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 2006-05-20

Obituary have a kick ass new album out called Dying of Everything.  Right up there with the best stuff they have ever done.  If you're a death metal fan you need to check it out.  Obituary are the masters of this style.  All Hail!

It got me to thinking about all the time over the years that I have seen Obituary.  Going back to the first time in 1990 when I saw them as part of the openers for Sacred Reich.  Cause Of Death hasn't dropped yet but they must have played some songs from it.  I can't recall.  They blew me away though and have been a fan ever since.  I also recall PIT Magazine out of Colorado Springs sending me a promo cassette around this time.

Today I am posting my 2006 recording of Obituary live at the Ogden Theatre in Denver Colorado.  I've seen a post for this show that lists Cephalic Carnage opening.  But on this night the openers were To Be Eaten, Dead To Fall, and Nicaraguan Death Squad.  Obituary were on tour for their new album at the time 'Frozen In Time'.  They play some stuff from that and some older classics too.  Great band.
