Big Business @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 2008-07-31

I'm a big fan of Big Business and have seen them many times since their 1st tour back in 2005.  This show was part of a bill with Melvins and Secret Chiefs 3.  They were still touring behind their 2007 album "Here Come The Waterworks" but the did play a couple of songs from the then upcoming 2009 album "Mind The Drift"

Nice sound and a good performance.  Enjoy.

Buñuel @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2026-02-05

This was Eugene Robinsons first performance in Denver ever.  He talks about it on this night. He was going to play with Whipping Boy in 1983 but the police shut down the show.  Then in 2017 Oxbow was supposed to play a show but when they got to Denver the show was going on without them and promoter said they were off the bill.  I would love to know where that happened because I know a lot of people would have come out to see Oxbow.  I would have.

I was almost done reading Eugene's Feral House published memoir "A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murderer's Row" when I heard the news that he suffered a stroke.  Scary situation but it sounds like he's on the mend.  I'm sure there is a gofundme for him if you are looking to throw him some support.

This was such a fun show.  Squid Pisser opened with their masked madness and then Buñuel knocked it out of the park.  Great performance and sound.  Solid setlist with an Oxbow song even.  Enjoy.

Supersuckers @ Mammoth Events Center, Denver CO, 1995-09-12

Here is another MarcR recording from his DAT archive.  This time an additional set from the night of September 12th 1995.  This show featured Hag Fish, Supersuckers, Reverend Horton Heat, Morphine and Violent Fems.  It was supposed to be two separate shows but they got combined.  Eddie Spaghetti complains about that and the sound in the Mammoth.  It was not great in this era.   The Supersuckers were touring behind "The Sacrilicious Sounds Of The Supersuckers" and had Rick Sims, who played on that album and contributed songs, on tour with them during this time singing and playing guitar.

The sound on this starts out a bit rough but the vocals are clear through out most of this.  I don't think this has ever been shared and I've never seen many Rick Sims era recordings out there.  So of historical interest to Supersuckers super fans. Enjoy.

Frenzal Rhomb @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 2002-03-30

Here we have Australian punk rock band Frenzal Rhomb captured live at the Ogden Theatre in Denver Colorado back on March 30th 2002.  They played on a bill with NOFX and Mad Caddies.  I shared the NOFX set awhile back on here.   Frenzal Rhomb was touring behind their album "Shut Your Mouth".

This is the only time I ever saw these guys.  Fun short set.  Sounds pretty good.  Enjoy.

Khemmis @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2013-12-08

Here is long running Denver heavy metal band Khemmis live at the Hi Dive back in December of 2013.  They were part of a bill opening for the mighty Church Of Misery.  This was before they even had an album out yet.  Absolution didn't drop until 2015.  There were some demos out and 2 of these songs are from that.  "The Bereaved" shows up on Absolution and I think track 3 is an early version of "Antediluvian".  Khemmis just put out their 5th album.  It is self-titled this time and available in all the usual places.  Great heavy music.

I must have walked in while Khemmis was starting up.  The first song fades in.  Nice sound in the Hi Dive and I really enjoyed revisiting this one.  Short and sweet.  Enjoy.

Rattlesnake Milk @ Bluebird Theatre, Denver CO, 2026-07-09

Here is a new band to me.  I got hipped to these guys by a couple friends in the past few years.  Never really dug in a took a good listen.  They came to the Bluebird in Denver at the beginning of July and one of those friends wondered if I could come record audio of the show.  The Friday show was sold out already so I got Thursday tickets.  I then saw George Cessna's band El Welk was opening so I figured it would probably be good.  The day before the show I listened to their Orange Amps session on YT and started to wonder what I had been doing not listening to these guy already.  They are right in my wheel house.

The show was great they played the few songs I knew and a bunch more.  We got a couple new songs that I took a guess at the titles and some fun covers of Fred Eaglesmith, Daniel Johnston, & Elvis.  I would 100% go see this band again.  Crowd was pretty chatty, rowdy and loud but my mics were insulated from the worst of that for the most part.  Enjoy.

This time UK band Elastica live at the Mercury Cafe in Denver CO on June 14th 1995.  They were touring behind their debut self-titles album. The Vandals @ Mile High Stadium, Denver CO, 1999-07-11

Here is one from exactly 27 years ago today.  Looking for an older show to post today and this one caught my eye.  Was working on it for a little bit before I realized what the date was.  I've posted a few other recording from this Warped Tour before.  Living End, Less Than Jake Blink 182.  I have a few more I should get posted at some point.

Sound if pretty decent for being outside in a big parking lot.  A fair amount of inane crowd chatter/atmosphere since I was standing in the middle of the crowd recording this.  Adds to the charm for me.  I used to listen to When In Rome back in 1984 with my BMX and skate friends.  This was my first time seeing them.  Enjoy.

Secret Chiefs 3 live in Denver CO in 2007 & 2008

I'm getting excited to see Secret Chiefs 3 later this year in Colorado when they are opening up for Iggor at the Gothic.  I last saw them in 2017 when they opened up for Dead Cross.  I first saw them way back in 2000.  I was thinking about it and for some reason I have never shared these two SC3 recordings I made back in 2007 & 2008.  Their most recent album at this time was Book of Horizons and they play a bunch of stuff of that.  The 2007 show they played with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.  The 2008 show they were part of a line up with Melvins and Big Business.

I must have run my tall stand at the Bluebird show and I might have recorded the Ogden show from the balcony.  Both sound really nice with with minimal crowd chatter.   Can believe it took me this long to share them.  Enjoy.

Mclusky @ Marquis Theatre, Denver CO, 2026-03-25

I finally saw a real Mclusky show this year. Way back in 2004 Mclusky played at the Larimer Lounge. I feel it was on a Sunday because I was there in the afternoon to see a Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots play on the back patio.  I was listening to their soft beautiful music when a roaring cacophony started coming from the inside stage. Munly wrapped it up not being able to compete with that. I went inside and watched Mclusky's soundcheck.

It was still day light so I headed to my car. I was just down the block when a gentleman, who's name I can't recall, came out of the Larimer and hollered down the street at me "where are you going!?! Mclusky is playing tonight!!!". I waved but went to my car and drove off. Not to return later for some forgotten dumb reason. Glad to rectify that mistake earlier this year.

Mclusky was glorious. They started their tour in Denver on this night.  Recorded with only the A10 mics and I think it turned out really nice.  Great setlist and tons of banter.  Extra banter even due to a 4 minute tech issue.  Whether or not "Denver" can be a verb gets discussed and later in the set the band gets the answer.
This is in the running for my favorite show of 2026.  Never miss this band if you get a chance to see them.
Enjoy.

Melvins @ Cat's Cradle, Carrboro NC, 1994-04-19

Here is another recording from the Lantz Barbour cassette archive.  Lantz recorded a lor of stuff in Colorado but captured some shows in North Carolina too.  Including this great 1994 Melvins set at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro NC.  They were on tour for the Houdini album.  Stoner Witch didn't come out until October of 1994.  They do play some songs from it though.

I don't think Lantz shared this very widely so this source is new to circulation.  There is another source of this show. Someone shot video of it up close and personal.  Audio is better on this a little bit.
You can check it out here.   Melvins 1994 video

Cool setlist start to finish and pretty decent sound.  Enjoy.

29th Street Disciples - Live in Denver CO 2007-2010

Here is a follow up post for the recent SUPERBUICK post.  This is another great band that Eli Molyneux was in after that project.  29th Street Disciples mined that same loud fast rules punk rock vein.  It reminds me a little of The Bronx who I know Eli loved.  I saw them with him one time at Globe Hall.

29th Street Disciples had 2 eras.  The first vocals were handled by Ben Roy who now fronts Spells and Arson Charge here in Denver. They had a run from 2007-2009.  In 2010  the 1.5 version started playing out with Matt James on vocals.   Sadly Eli and the drummer Justin Carlson are no longer with us.

This is all of late December set in 2007 at the Larimer Lounge and then a few tracks from other shows. The last 4 from a 2010 with Matt on vocals.

They only recorded one self titled album.  You can check it out here   29th Street Disciples

Here is a recording of hip-hop legend Slick Rick at Three Kings Tavern in Denver Colorado back in November of 2014.  All the hits and nice sound on this one.  I hadn't listened to this since I recorded it and I had kind of remembered it not being good.  Live hip-hop is a hit or miss situation sometimes and in retrospect with a more in depth listen I think this is mostly pretty good.  I think he get a little high at the end.  Enjoy.

Here is a pretty fresh one.  Subhumans (UK) live at HQ in Denver Colorado back on April 3rd of this year.  These guys have been at it forever but this was my first time seeing them.  They are punk rock legends for a reason.  Great show.

As an experiment I just used the built in microphones on the A10.  I think they did a pretty good job compared to my AT mics for sure.  Great setlist good sound.  Enjoy.

Here is another recording from the Jim Hucks archive.  This time he shared with me the 24bit audio of this 1998 Sonic Youth show he filmed at the Ogden Theatre in Denver Colorado.  Link to his video below.  They were touring behind the new album "A Thousand Leaves" at the time.  So we get lots of songs from that record and some deeper cuts.  Including the opener instrumental opener "Anagrama" from a 1997 EP.

Jim used a mix of his camera mic and the soundboard feed for this so it sounds really good.  Enjoy.

Superbuick, Live in Denver CO, 1999-04-23 and 2002-09-26

Been meaning to get this posted up.  Denver's Superbuick was a band started by Duane Bodenheimer after returning to Denver when his most famous band The Derelicts dissolved at the end of the 90s. They played punk rock but with big rock guitar sounds.  Reminiscent of Hellacopters or New Bomb Turks.  The existed from the late 90s into the early aughts.  The band was Duane Bodenheimer - vocals, Eli Molyneux - guitar, Charlie Romero - guitar, Geoff Andersen - bass, Corey Ryan = drums on 1999 show & Joseph Vigil - drums 2000.  Sadly Duane passed away last year and Eli and Joseph left us a few years back as well.

The first set is from the Bluebird Theatre when Superbuick opened up for Supersuckers i n1999. The second is a set from the 15th Street Tavern when the opened for Valentine Killers.  Which was their last show.  They broke up after that.  I'm pretty sure their released output is 1 CD single with 2 songs and tracks on a couple local comps.  I had to ask Geoff for help with the song titles.  Most of these were never released songs.  Lots of Duane stage banter.  Enjoy.

Always a good time seeing Mike Watt.  They did a two night stand at HQ in Denver Colorado last week. Playing on the 7th and 8th of May 2026.  The played the same set both nights.  On the second night Mike loses his voice a little bit.  Tom handled a lot of vocals.

I think this sounds nice and I hope you enjoy it.

Liz Phair @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 1995-04-07

Here is another fantastic MarcR recording.  This time a solo electric show by Liz Phair at the Ogden Theatre in Denver CO back on April 7th 1995.   Her most recent album at the time was Whip-Smart but she does play some songs from "whitechocolatespaceegg" which doesn't even come out until 1998.

She started this tour in Denver and says this was her first show in a long time.  Not a whole lot of stage banter she just gets to work and plays 23 songs in 70 minutes.  Good sound and a respectful crowd.  Just look at that setlist!!  Enjoy.

Tool @ Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre, Greenwood Village CO, 1993-06-26

I went to this Lollapalooza back in 1993 so I was pretty excited to see this recording of Tool on the 2nd stage surface recently.  Its a really nice board mix that starts off super quite for 20 seconds or so then Maynard starts talking.   This year I recall seeing Rage Against the Machine, Fishbone, Tool, Primus & Alice in Chains.  Wow right?

Some time after RATM my friend Jon and I were walking over to the second stage to see Tool and got passed by Zack and Tom from RATM in a golf cart.  We wondered were they were going.  As it turned out Zack got up on stage with Tool and did the Henry Rollins spoken word part from the song "Bottom".  Pretty amazing to see back then and equally so to get to hear it again 33 years later.

Hats of to whoever was the FOH engineer was on this day who recorded this.  Really nice board mix.

Armchair Martian @ Three Kings Tavern, Denver CO, 2008-06-05

I only saw Armchair Martian a couple times and this was one of them.  They were part of an amazing bill on this night with The Nobodys, a Chad Price solo set, and Drag The River at Three Kings Tavern back in June of 2008.  This show was Jon Snodgrass, Paul Rucker on drums and  Miguel Barron on bass.

Good sound on this one and a setlist of almost every Armchair song you would want to hear.  I had totally forgotten that they ended with a cover of a Tubeway Army song too.  This must have been a hell of a night. No doubt a party and 18 years ago so I have no specific memories of this other than that I was there.  A fun set to revisit.  Enjoy.

Buckethead @ Gothic Theatre, Englewood CO, 2025-06-05

Here is a pretty recent recording.  This time from my friend Ramiro.  He made a nice capture of Buckethead at the Gothic back in June of 2025. He shared it with me to share with y'all.

I've never seen Buckethead myself but have been aware of him since his weird long fingered picture in an 80s guitar magazine.  Google it.  He's a shredder and there is lots of shredding happening.
Sounds nice too.  Enjoy.

Camarosmith, Colorado Invasion 2002, September 28th and 29th

Camarosmith from Seattle Washington was formed by Don E. Paycheck and Jeff Matz while Zeke was broken up / on hiatus after 2001. The were joined by Chris Johnsen, Pat Brown, & Ben Rew and the toured a bunch for a couple years.  Zeke got back together and eventually Jeff joined High on Fire.

They play stadium rock n roll with some swagger.  Donny and Jeff really click as a rhythm section and the guitarists rip.  A solid set of original songs and a choice Judas Priest cover.  The Denver set is an nice audience recording and the Ft Collins is a ok board mix.  Both are a fun listen.  Enjoy.
