Sonic Youth @ Gothic Theater, Englewood CO, 2006-06-27

I heard on the radio this morning that today was Kim Gordon's birthday.  Happy Birthday Kim!!

It reminded me of seeing Sonic Youth at the Gothic Theater back in 2006 were someone had written the above graffiti on the wall of the Gothic Theater.  Indeed Kim Gordon does rule.

This show was on the Rather Ripped tour and the setlist features a lot of song from that.  Some old classics too.

This recording got around a lot back in the day but I had never posted it up on my blog before. I figured it was one I need to get up.  If you had this in the past it is the same audio as that previous data set.  This set is just tagged with artwork.

Enjoy

Viagra Boys @ Crescent Ballroom, Phoenix AZ, 2022-04-21

Today we have a post of a recording a friend of mine made last week.  Jim Hucks made a nice capture of phenomenal Swedish post punk band Viagra Boys down in Phoenix AZ.  Photo credit to Jim as well.

They have only been around since 2015 but have put out 2 fantastic albums and have a new one coming out on July 8th called 'Cave World'.   They will be coming to Colorado in October of 2022.  Something to look forward to this fall.  Until then go buy their album and enjoy this live capture.

Church of Misery @ Larimer Lounge, Denver CO, 2019-05-29

It was the metal high holy holidays in Denver during the first part of 2019.  The night before this Church of Misery show I went to a show featuring Genocide Pact, In The Company Of Serpents,Primitive Man, and Full of Hell!!  Then another stacked bill the next night with Church Of Misery, Mondo Generator, and Toke.   Sleep was playing up the road in Boulder on the 29th too.

More shows then I had time, money or energy to catch.  I'm not complaining.  It's a good problem to have.  It's pretty quickly returned to that level these days.  There are a crazy number of good shows in Denver next week.   Including Sleep but also, Idles, John Spencer and the HITmakers, Slim Cessna and more I'm forgetting.  Let the good times roll I guess.

For me Church of Misery is a not to be missed band.  So I had no regrets about missing any other shows on this night.  Big 80 minute plus set.  A bunch of songs I hadn't heard them play before.  So loud!!  Vocalist Hiroyuki Takano had a theremin and some other noise manipulators in front of him.  During intro parts of songs it get quite high pitched and crazy while he was working it.  Presented here for your enjoyment.

As always, support independent artists and business any way you can.  Love one another and go do some good.  Any little bit helps.  Now here are some songs about murders.

Nebula & The Entrance Band @ 3 Kings, Denver CO, 2009-08-10

Shows are kicking in to high gear again with more and more getting announced everyday.  Including a return of Nebula to Denver with Year Of The Cobra and local's Messiahvore at HQ on Saturday May 10th.  A Friday night so it should be a fun one.

It got me to thinking about the last time I saw Nebula and it was in the same building back in 2009 when HQ was Three Kings Tavern.  It was a super stacked lineup with Nebula, The Entrance Band, Kingdom of Magic, and Blacklamb.  Shame it was on a Monday night because it was super under attended.  Might have bummed the bands out but it was good for my recordings.

Nebula played stuff spanning their career and a song that is either new or maybe a cover.  I had never heard it before the the internet provided me no answers.  The small crowd was very enthusiastic and cheered the band one to come out and play an encore for us.

I had forgotten how cool The Entrance Band was.  Heavy psych rock from Los Angeles.  Looks like they are no longer a band.  I need to seek out some of their vinyl.  Really loved revisiting their set.

Enjoy.
