I'm always down for a Mario Lalli project. Quite the line up of heavy hitter desert rock guys in the band. They say that this is improvised an set with Sean Wheeler singing and speaking over the music. Nick adds some background touches and Mario chimes in a bit too. They have played this out for a bit and I have heard a recording of an Australian show from November of 2022, and a few on YT, and it is pretty similar. Which makes sense to have pinned it down a little bit over time but still can stretch it out as they feel.
I saw on Discogs that there is a MLATRSC live cassette out that has names for four acts of the performance but I haven't heard it to know how it is divided. So I named each part of the performance based on the title of the cassette "Forgetting Out Loud (Folklore From The Other Desert Cities)".
The Denver performance is divided by Nick taking over on vocals and singing a cover he's know for. Roky Erickson's "Bloody Hammer". Then they go back into the Forgetting Out loud set. The November 2022 set I have heard doesn't include the cover and goes on for another 20 minutes almost.
Some of what Sean Wheeler is performing comes from an art book that he did with Bad Otis Link called "Dry Heat". There is a an album that Sean did with Aldo Struyf that is a complete performance of what is illustrated in the book it appears. I have no idea if it sounds anything like MLATRSC. I kind of doubt it and I want to track down a copy of that vinyl. During this set and others I have seen videos of Sean has a copy of the book on stage with him that he referenced on occasion.
Fun short set as a warm up for the STÖNER headlining set. Enjoy.
