Truckfighters @ HQ, Denver CO, 2025-05-03

My first time seeing Truckfighters and I got a hell of a show.  Denver was the last date on their US tour so it felt like they pulled out all the stops.  Great setlist and I thought they sounded really good.  They had some equipment problems at the beginning of "Momentum" and the bass player and drummer slow jazz it up for a while until the guitar rejoins.  A special 12 minute version they call it.  Turning lemons into lemonade.  Total pros.   I would totally see Truckfighters again.  Enjoy.

Superchunk @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 1995-04-19

Here is another of MarcR 1995 DAT recordings.  This time Superchunk at the Ogden on April 19th 1995.  They were opening up for Belly at this show.  I guess this is part of the touring for Foolish still since "Here's Where The Strings Come In" didn't come out until September of 1995.

The band's stage banter is really sarcastic and negative at this show.  At one point they call the author of the Westword article that came out before this show an "Asshole".  They call Westword "Water World". Talk mild shit to the crowd.  I thought they might have just been having a bad day.  But then wen I went searching to see if I could find the article I first found this 1999 article.

That mentions that this was kinda of their shtick back then.  Made more sense.  Here is the 1995 article which I now don't think they were that upset about.

Superchunk is still putting out new music and touring to this day.  Go see them if you get a chance for sure.  MarcR did a nice job on this and it was a fun set to process.  Enjoy.

Jill Sobule @ The Lion's Lair, Denver CO, 2009-07-28

I was saddened to hear the news of Jill Sobules tragic passing recently.  She was a Denver native and had shows scheduled for the state this weekend.  I recalled that I had seen her live just one time.  She opened up for John Doe and the Sadies at the Lion's Lair in back in 2009.

I pulled it up yesterday to give it a listen.  The Lair is tiny so sometimes recordings of solo acoustic acts there get drowned out by the bar atmosphere.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that I must have put the mics somewhere really close to the stage and the crowd was so quite and respectful on this night.

A lot of great stories and banter during this and some great performances.  She brings her Mom up on stage to help her sing a cover of Nelly's "Hot in Herre".  It really sweet and funny.  The whole set is a delight.  I hope you enjoy it.

Black Curse @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2019-09-13 {Post 666}

Here its post 666!!  I started this blog 16 years ago so it has taken a bit to reach this point.  It's been quite the journey.  I've shared quite a variety of music along they way.  I hope those of you that are into these kind of recordings have enjoyed at least some of them along the way.

I wanted something appropriately evil sounding for post 666 and this Colorado blackened death metal band certainly fits the bit.  I remember dropping the needle down on their 1st album "Endless Wound" and it sounded so evil it felt like all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room  Just a heavy darkness.

Black Curse is made up of folks from some of the best metal bands doing it in Colorado and beyond.
Eli Wendler (Spectral Voice, City Hunter), Zach Coleman (Khemmis, Trve Brewing), Johnathan Campos (Primitive Man), and Morris Kolontyrsky (Blood Incantation).  At this show anyway.  Black Curse is finishing up a tour of Europe right now and Morris is busy touring with BI.  I'm not sure who took his place on this current tour.

The last decade plus has been a golden age of metal coming out of Colorado and breaking internationally.  It has been so cool to be on the ground here to witness it.  Before their current tour they had only played a handful of shows.  I was lucky enough to catch them at an even earlier show than this one I captured.  They played at Syntax Psychic Opera, a 100 cap room that is long gone now, earlier in 2019.  I forget who was on that bill.   Then again at this show they played with Fetid and Cerebral Rot.
Then again in 2023 when the opened up for Dead Congregation.  I'm spoiled rotten.  Enjoy
