Man I miss seeing live music. Hanging out with like minded individuals. Having some drinks and shooting the shit about whatever. Seeing old friends. Making new friends. Watching a band or individual lay it all out bare for the world to see. Sometimes with an acoustic guitar and hushed vocals or sometimes with a stage full of amps that are as loud as fuck. Love all that. We need to do what we need to do right now so that we can all do that again safely. I'm willing to wait it out.
In the mean time if you love this stuff too please support your favorite artist and venues by helping them out. Bandcamp has been killing it lately but having special days were they give 100% of the transactions to the artist. Buy some music from someone you already love or someone you just heard of. Find out what your favorite local venue is doing and throw them some support anyway you can. Support you local record stores and buy something from them too. This worldwide situation is nothing like most of us alive right now have ever experienced. We are going to get through it but the cultural and economic impact is going to be gigantic. Let's love each other and try to go do some good any time you can.
With all this extra free time it has had me digging into the vaults and posting a lot of stuff from years and years ago. Figured it was time for something relatively fresh. Here is a show from about a year ago.
Fotocrime is project from Ryan Patterson. You might know him from his previous long running band Coliseum. They started out more as a hardcore / posthardcore band that slowly morphed into a more dark gothic rock sound. Think Sisters Of Mercy as a relevant touchstone but it's not quite that.
He has released a series of fantastic EPs and two full length albums. His newest South Of Heaven has been pretty much in constant rotation for me. He recorded that with a full band but he mostly tours as a solo artist. Really compelling music I just can't get enough of.
At this show he was part of the always amazing Electric Funeral Fest that was put on for 4 years running by Denver's Dust Presents. Obviously not happening this year but hopefully next summer we will see it rise again. Always a stunning array of heavy music spanning multi genres.
He was kind of the odd man out at the fest being a solo performer and leaning into the dark synth. For those that stuck around that night we got a fantastic performance. One of the highlights of the fest for me.
Got a nice capture that night and I hope you enjoy it.
