Garland Jeffreys @ Lion's Lair, Denver CO, 2005-01-07

The (worlds famous) Lion's Lair gets derided and a divy punk bar, and it is that, but it has hosted a wide array of performers that you wouldn't expect to see there.   Gil Scott-Heron played there once, maybe twice.   There were shows by Jonathan Richman of The Modern Lovers, The Decemberists, Ozomatli, & The Black Keys even.  John Doe from X had played over 30 solo shows here.

Not a surprise to see Garland Jeffreys then I suppose.  He played the Lair a couple times.  Last time was in 2012.  My recording here is from a 2005 performance.

Depending on who you ask Garland might be best know for his song "Wild In The Streets" that the Circle Jerks covered.  He came up in the early 70s New York rock scene and has played with Lou Reed and John Cale.  He has released at least 15 albums under his name.  Quite prolific and a big back catalog that is worth digging into.

He took a long hiatus in the 90s but returned to touring in the aughts and released an new album in 2011 to critical acclaim. In 2019 he decided to ease back out of the spotlight and only preforms sporadically.

If your a fan go support him from his website.  They have a lot of merch, CDs, and vinyl up there for sale.  All ways support independent artist anytime you can.  It's especially important in this crazy time when these artists can't tour.

At this show Garland was joined by longtime collaborator with a long list of credits of his own Alan Freedman.   Enjoy.
