This is a Colorado deep cut to most I imagine. Cobalt started in Greeley Colorado in the early aughts by childhood friends Phil McSorley and Erik Wunder. They put out a string of very well received, interesting, experimental black metal albums between 2003 to 2009. During the recording of the album "Slow Forever" Phil left the band as was replaced by Charlie Fell. Erik Wunder died too young at 42 in 2025.
They didn't tour a whole lot and when they did they recruited outside bass and guitar players to fill out the band. For this 2016 tour they were joined by Jonathan Campos from Primitive Man on bass and Shane McCarthy from Wayfarer on guitar. This tour was the most extensive that they ever did across the US with 21 shows. The tour was joined by German duo Mantar. Denver was the final homecoming stop. Original vocalist Phil McSorley came out and sang Gin with the band.
It had been awhile since I had listened to this. What a great show with songs from across their catalog.
