.357 Stringband @ Benders Tavern, Denver CO, 2007-06-20

.357 String band was Derek Dunn (guitar and vocals), Joseph Huber (banjo, fiddle and vocals), Rick Ness (upright bass) and Jayke Orvis (multi-instrumentalist including mandolin).  Jayke left the band in 2009 and they continued on for a few years until Joseph Huber also decided to call it a day.  They have all gone on to record more music and explore other directions.

I had forgotten about what a fun show this was.   All red hot pickers and most of the songs are barn burners.  They soldiered through a bunch of technical difficulties on this night back in 2007 at the, gone but not forgotten, Benders Tavern in Denver Colorado.   I managed to edit out most of the dead air as it were.  It was a real momentum killer at two different spots in the set that night.

Seek out their music if you dig this and check out what all the members are up to as well.
As always please support independent music and art any way you can.  Enjoy.

Iron Maiden @ Comfort Dental Amphitheater , Englewood CO. 2012-08-13

Here is a fun one from 9 years ago today.  The mighty Iron Maiden live at Comfort Dental Amphitheater.  Man that name bites.  I thought Fiddlers Green was a bad name but in comparison I'll take it.

They were on the 'Maiden England' world tour for this show.  Highlighting all of the hits instead of songs from whatever their current album is.  They seem to do something like this ever other tour.  These shows focused on songs from the Seventh Son album and older songs.  Hell of a setlist I say.

I sadly didn't see this show and this is my friend Bill's capture of this night.  Crowd is a bit chatty but vocals and nice and clear and overall I think it's quite a nice listen.  Enjoy.

Cracker @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2007-11-16

Here is the headlining Cracker show to go along with the Jason Isbell set I just posted.

I've seen Cracker and CVB a bunch of times over the years.  Always a good show.  Last time I saw them was in NYC spring of 2019 right before the shutdowns.    No doubt I will catch them again.  I doubt David Lowery is going to give up playing live anytime soon.

Nice sound and setlist on this one.  Enjoy.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2007-11-16

I saw Jason more than a few times while he was in Drive-by Truckers.  He wrote some amazing songs during his tenure with that esteemed ensemble.   So when he went solo in 2007 I was excited to hear what he was up to.   Oh course he put out the now classic album Sirens Of The Ditch and started touring with the 400 Unit and the rest is history.  14 years later he is arguably bigger than the Truckers.  He was just in Denver last Sunday headlining Red Rocks.

He came to Denver earlier in 2007 and played the Larimer Lounge I recall.  For this show he was opening up for Cracker at the Bluebird.   In face Johnny Hickman from Cracker joins them towards the end of the set for a couple songs.

The set includes some of his new tunes, some Truckers era songs and a few well chosen covers of the Talking Heads and Tom Petty.  To this day he has a deft hand with the covers he and the band play.

Enjoy his set and I'll be getting Cracker's set from this night up as well.

Daddy Longhead @ Room 710, Austin TX, 2004-09-24

Here is another show from the Tracy Murillo collection.  This time a 2004 Daddy Longhead reunion show.

Daddy Longhead was a band Jeff Pinkus from the Butthole Surfers started in 1990 as a outlet for his songs that were maybe too rock n roll for the Butthole's.    Oh he still gets out there but this stuff is guitar heavy in a different way.  More ZZ Top less Captain Beefheart.  Rey Washam from Big Boys and Scratch Acid was on drums and Jim Yongue from DDT joined on guitar.  The hung it up at the end of the 90s and the band kinda morphed into Jeff's band Honky.

This was a reunion show in Austin TX back in 2004.  The crowd is a bit rambunctious but and there is plenty of bar room atmospherics on this but it is still quite enjoyable I think.

In the not too distant past they got the band back together and recorded a new album called Twinkle.  Which I think was mostly old songs that finally saw the light of day in May of 2021.  Go hit up their bandcamp page and pick yourself up a copy.

Triclops! @ Lion's Lair, Denver CO, 2008-08-30

Triclops! was a arty of kilter punk rock ensemble from San Francisco.  They had a short run of only about 5 years from 2005-2010 but put out two fantastic albums on Alternative Tentacles that are worth tracking down.  A couple of singles and and EP as well.

The band had members from Victim's Family, Fleshies, Bottles and Skulls, Peace Creep, among others.

This was a rowdy Saturday night at the Lion's Lair and their is a fair amount for band and crowd interaction during their short set. Singer John Geek egging them on the whole time.  He gives a shout out to the infamous Black Leprechaun at the start of the show.  RIP Andre.

Enjoy

Lucero @ The Gothic & Fox Theatres, Colorado, October 2007

Back in 2017 I posted Lucero's Colorado summer or 2007 tour stop at the Westword Music Fest.  Well those road dogs just didn't stop back in those days.  So here are the 2 October 2007 Colorado shows they played.   There go along with the Bobby Bare Jr sets I recently posted.

At the Englewood show we get a pretty sober Ben and a monster 2 hour long set with some really choice cuts from their entire catalog.  Along with a couple of fun covers back to back.  Bill Wither's 'Ain't No Sunshine' and The Replacements 'If Only You Were Lonely'

The Boulder show has Ben a bit looser.  There are some flubs which in retrospect I recall thinking it was a bit of a shit show.  Listening back 14 year later it is still a pretty good performance and that is what you got back then.  You would hope for hungover Ben not drunk Ben.  Ben and the band have all matured and have families these days so their shows are no longer a roll of the dice these days.

So despite it's looseness I think the Boulder set is still worth a listen.  Just look at that setlist!!  Big props to Lucero for being a band that mixed it up and didn't just play the same set night after night.  There are some repeats but different song order and some deep cuts we didn't get the night before.

Really nice sound on these I think.  The Englewood show was recorded from the balcony next to the soundboard and the Boulder show I ran a really tall stand.  Enjoy.
