Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals @ Macky Auditorium, Boulder CO, 1995-10-05

Here is Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals opening set from when the opened for PJ Harvey at the Macky Auditorium in Boulder Colorado back in 1995.  I posted the PJ set not long ago.

This is another MarcR recording.

I'm not sure I got into it until later but I was a fan of his guitar playing and the album Fight For Your Mind.  Been awhile since I had listened to any of his stuff.  Still digging it.  Fun to get to hear this show.

Short but sweet set.  Sounds real nice I think.  Enjoy.

Dale Crover (Melvins) @ Marquis Theatre, Denver CO, 2024-07-13

Dale Crover of the Melvins was out on tour playing drums for Redd Kross recently.  Before they played Dale came out and DJ's some songs for the crowd.  Including, CW McCall - Convoy, ? - Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Warlock Pinchers - Morrissey Rides A Cockhorse, Spinal Tap - Big Bottom, Jacqueline Taïeb - 7 AM, The Rolling Stones - I Wanna Be Your Man, Sam The Sham & The Pharaoh - Lil' Red Riding Hood, Plague Vendor - Rougher Than Rough, and a couple others I didn't recognize.

After that he got up with an acoustic guitar and played a small selection of his solo songs and a Melvins song.  I've never seen Dale do anything but play drums so it was cool to see him in another light.  Good stuff.

Smashing Pumpkins @ Ogden Theatre, Denver CO, 1993-10-10

I was at this show and a massive Smashing Pumpkins fan in 1993.  Siamese Dream had dropped earlier that year and they just took off.  I had seen them on the Gish tour in Denver in 1991.  They played at the Denver Coliseum as part of a bill with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam.  That show made me a fan.

Years later, at the end of the 90s or beginning of the aughts, while I was doing a ton a CDR trading I acquired this 1993 Smashing Pumpkins Ogden show recording.  I remembered it be good but it got filled away in the boxes.  Recently I made an effort to pull all of my own recording that I had on CDR and all other Colorado shows.  I rediscovered this one in that exercise and then it came up in conversation around the same time.  I had to get it posted on here.

I immediately ripped the CDRs to WAVs and revisited it.  I suspect that this might be another MarcR recording as I've seen sources for this show listed as audience DAT but there were a lot of tapers so who knows.  It is also posted on the LMA.    https://archive.org/details/tsp1993-10-10.flac16/

It is the same source as this but the tracking wasn't complete.  The posted comment says that this show is notable not only the first performance of Drown and also that they didn't play Cherub Rock.  That is incorrect.  It's just not split out as a track on the LMA post.  The play it after some banter that must have been encore break.  The CDR source fades out in a few spots where lulls were removed I think.  Amazing finally with Starla.  Best SP show I ever saw in retrospect.

I corrected some audio level issues and massaged it a little bit.  The vocals are nice and clear and during the quite parts it is quite nice.  I remember this show being super loud so during those parts it gets a little muddy.  Some of that is just due to the way that room sounded back then.  Very listenable I think and a hell of a setlist.  Enjoy.

The Briefs @ Bluebird Theatre, Denver CO, 2002-06-11

This had to have been the first time I saw the Briefs.  It might have been their first time in Denver too.  Not sure about that.  They opened up for The Queers.  This show made me a fan and I remain one today.  One of my very favorite bands.  A band that I own a copy of almost everything that they have released on vinyl.  Great songs, biting lyrics, tongue in cheek attitude.

I caught another couple shows in the aughts.  A very memorable one at Climax Lounge (aka The Raven) where they came out wearing real fish as neckties.  They got tossed into the crowd who tossed them back.  It got really gross.

At this Bluebird show all the band members were wearing sexy police man costumes.  I think they might have bought them at the adult emporium that was next door to the Bluebird at the time.  They stood around acting like cops and vibeing people out.  It was pretty funny.  They carried on with that shtick on stage.  Promising not to arrest anyone.  Good fun.  They still play around a little bit and put out a great new album in 2019.  I would see them again in a heart beat.  Enjoy.

Steve Winwood, @ Ball Arena, Denver CO, 2024-08-29

Here is the Steve Winwood opening set from the Doobie Brothers show.  I had seen him one time before opening for Steely Dan at Redrocks.  This time we didn't get hailed on so that was nice.

Would have like to have heard Low Spark but pretty solid set.  Enjoy.
