Supersuckers @ Albums On The Hill, Boulder CO, 2003-06-21

I'm working through all of my recordings I have of my friends The Foggy Mountain Fuckers.  I'm transferring a bunch of shows from the minidisc masters.  Many of those have multiple shows from different bands so I'm just getting all of the music off of them as I go.

One of those minidiscs had this Supersuckers in-store performance at Albums On The Hill in Boulder.  They had been on a run of Colorado shows.  Fort Collins on the 19th, Denver on the 20th, and then Boulder on the 21st.  This was in the afternoon before their show at the Boulder Theater.

They were on tour for their 2003 album Motherfuckers Be Trippin' and the classic original lineup of Eddie Spaghetti, Dan Bolton, Ron Heathman, and Dancing Eagle was still intact.

I'm pretty sure that I have never pulled this off the master before.
Some fun covers and a nice mix of new and old songs.  Sounds really good I think.   Enjoy.

Blacksmiths @ Larimer Lounge, Denver CO, 2004-07-10

Blacksmiths were a Denver band in the aughts that did mash ups of Black Sabbath and Smiths songs.  The band consisted of Rich from Boss 302 fame singing and the guys from Derailed as the back up band.  Sure it's a little silly I guess but it was a lot of fun and they did a really good job preforming these mash ups.  The vocals are great and the musicianship is top notch.  Lesser bands would have made a mess of the concept.

At one point Rich thanks the 10 of us that came out.  I don't remember who else was on the bill or why so few people were there on a Saturday night.  Might have been a bummer at the time but not having many people there sure helped my recording.   I think this sound good so enjoy this blast from the past.

Trouble @ Three Kings Tavern, Denver CO, 2008-07-05

Here is a capture of a band in transition.   Trouble was on tour for their newest album, Simple Mind Condition, that they had recorded with the original singer Eric Wagner.  Wagner let the band in May of 2008 and they recruited Kory Clark from Warrior Soul for vocals.  Kory doesn't sound quite like Wagner but is a fitting substitute.

Pretty nice capture of their Denver stop of the tour from my friend Twister.  Enjoy.

Dead Prez @ Oriental Theatre, Denver CO, 2013-01-18

This is one of those recording that I was pretty sure was a mess. It was a crazy drunken birthday night for a friend.  The mic position wasn't optimal just convenient.   So much legal smoke in the air.  I filed it away and decided to revisit it later.  Fast forward to 8 years later I cued it up and was pleasantly surprised.  I missed the very start so that fades in.  Good stuff after that.

Live hip-hop can be super hit or miss but Dead Prez delivers the goods.  Loud enough DJ and strong well delivered rhyme after rhyme.  These guys don't tour very much so this was a special show.  Based on Setlist.fm this might have been the only Dead Prez show in 2013.  Enjoy.

Blood Ceremony @ Marquis Theatre, Denver CO, 2012-01-27

I had forgotten how rad this one was.  Canadian doom metal band Blood Ceremony live at the Marquis Theatre in Denver back in 2012 when the opened for Ghost on the 13 Dates Of Doom tour.

They would have been touring behind their fantastic album Living With The Ancients around this time.  The signature to Blood Ceremony's  particular style is the inclusion of flute.  It's been done before certainly but Blood Ceremony do it particularly well.  Lesser dirty hippies would cower in terror at these evil tunes.  I love it.

Nice heavy crunch with clean vocals and flute solos.  Enjoy

Weezer @ Redrocks, Morrison CO, 2002-07-07

(I have no idea who this is or who took this photo.
If it was you and you would like photo credit I will be happy to add it.)

In 2002 Weezer posted online that they were going to allow one person at each tour stop to come out and record the shows on their summer tour and a contact email for tapers to send the request too.  My friend Tom got picked for this Redrocks date.  He still had to buy his own ticket and when he called his Weezer contact the guy came out and got his gear and took it to the soundboard area but made Tom wait in line.   So not a fun prize with a friendly reception.    They stopped their open taping policy very shortly after this and went with a no fan recording stance.  Not a surprise for a big band like Weezer.

Tom got in and was able to set up his gear in the soundboard cage and run the mics high on a stand.  It must have been a nice calm night at Redrocks because this recording is super nice.  Hardly any crowd chatter and no wind phasing that you can get at any outdoor venue.

Pretty great set list and River's is full of in-between song banter.  Fun show.  Enjoy.

Torche @ Three Kings Tavern, Denver CO, 2019-06-15

The Goodwin brothers, Michael & Shaun, put on a super rad music festival in Denver for 4 years called Electric Funeral Fest as Dust Presents.  They brought so many amazing underground heavy rock bands to  Denver for these.  That was on top of the band they played in The Munsens and their jobs.

I loved these shows and would plan my whole weekend around them.  At first they were just at Three Kings Tavern but expanded to include Hi Dive and Mutiny Information Cafe as venues.  Walking distance from my house and clubs full of homies made it easy for me to setup and record the shows too.  One year I captured every single one of the 30+ bands that played.  It was a marathon but so fun.

Last year they decided to call off plans for a 2020 fest due to a variety of  reasons that didn't include a global pandemic at the time.  I wouldn't be surprised to see it return in some form someday.

Michael took a ton of photos at these and other shows and has put out several photo zines called 'Ritual Of Sin' and has a new one going to print called 'The City Gasped'.  Check them out here.

Ritual of Sin zine  & The City Gasped zine

Shaun in the meantime has started a hot sauce company called Sauce Leopard that is kicking some ass and making a very delicious variety of sauces.  I really dig the tropical habanero and the red fresno pepper sauce.  Check those out here.   Sauce Leopard

While your clicking on links go check out their heavy rock band The Munsens  and Shaun's other band Love Gang on band camp.

Now onto the show post.  Today it is Torche's set from the 2019 Electric Funeral Fest.  These Florida heavy rockers treated Denver to a deep tracks set with songs from their new album that hadn't come out at the time and older stuff like Tarpit Carnivore.

This turned out really nice I think.  Vocal are a bit low but nice room sound and very little crowd noise.  They also sing Happy Birthday to a friend of theirs which is funny since I posted a Blood Incantation show not too long ago where they do the same.  Enjoy.

Wovenhand @ Gothic Theatre, Englewood CO, 2001-10-13

I'm pretty certain that this is the 1st ever public performance of David Eugene Edwards post 16 Horsepower band Wovenhand.   16 Horsepower was still an active band at this time and continued on until 2005 or so.

As with many 16 HP and Wovenhand Colorado shows over the years this served as a warm up date for a run of European shows.  This version of Wovenhand was just David and Daniel McMahon.  Both playing multiple instruments.   At this show they opened up for Denver band The Czars.

I was thinking about this show the other day and was wondering if my memory of my recording match the actual recording.  I had recalled it was pretty good if quiet.   After almost 20 years since I listened to it my memory was correct.

I think this sounds pretty nice.  Clear vocals and a very respectful crowd.  The setlist has songs that appeared on the 1st Wovenhand album and a couple of 16 Horsepower songs.

I know I traded this out on CDR at the time so there are copies out there.  This is a fresh transfer from my master though.  Cleaned up and newly tracked and tagged. Enjoy.
