Rocket From The Crypt @ The Starlight, Ft Collins CO, 2001-07-18

I was thinking about Rocket From the Crypt recently.  I read that they were having a special Halloween show in San Diego this year.  Some kind of 3D spooktacular.   No doubt it was a super fun event.  I miss seeing them live so that they are still getting out and playing does my heart good.

It got me to thinking about they times that I have seen them and which recording I have shared.  I remembered that I have never posted this 2001 set from The Startlight in Fort Collins Colorado.

It was a hot, hot, July night and John Reis mentions that fact multiple times and about how the crowds bad body odor is affecting the the tuning of their guitars and the sound of the amps.  He recommends that one gentleman in the crowd "meets my friend soap".   It was mostly jokes but I'm sure it was rip in that place that night.

John also mentioned that it was their first time in town but I have a RFTC recording from a show in Ft Collins from way back in 1993.

Wretch Like Me and Bill the Welder opened up for this show.

Sound pretty good I think.  Nice clear vocals and nothing is blown out.  Enjoy.

Shooter Jennings @ Boulder Theatre, Boulder CO, 2006-08-30

Shooter is the only son of Walyon Jennings and Jessi Colter.  He's been am active musician since a young age and tried his hand in multiple genres over the years.

In 2005 he out out a country album that made a fairly big splash called "Put the 'O' Back in Country'. Followed up by 'Electric Rodeo'.    Those too are my favorite that I have spent the most time listening too.  But it had a large catalog of releases that worth exploring.

Around that time he started hitting the road pretty hard and eventually ended up in Boulder Colorado for this show.  I recall that this show was fairly sparsely attended and Shooter comments from the stage that they didn't know how Boulder was going to like some country music.   I remember there was a group of women who won tickets to the show from KYGO, or whatever the big pop country radio station was at the time, and they didn't seem very into it.

I thought it was a great show and at the time Shooter was open to people recording his shows and I ran a big tall mic stand to capture this.   That and the small crowd helped me make a nice capture.

I posted this on COtapers.org back then.  This version has been sweetened up a bit and freshly tagged.
Enjoy

Motörhead @ Ogden Theater, Denver CO, 1999-10-05

Just over 22 years ago.  Motörhead live at the Ogden Theater.   Motörhead was on tour for Snake Bite Love.  I believe that this was my first time seeing Motörhead as well.

This was still during my first year of recording shows.   The levels are blown out right at the beginning but I real it in pretty quick.   Over all it's a little muddy but very listenable I think.

I'm sure I traded this out on CDR back then but it must not have gotten around very much as there wasn't even a setlist on setlist.fm.

Enjoy

Split Lip Rayfield @ Quixotes, Denver CO, 2008-01-18

I first saw Split Lip Rayfield in 2004 at the Larimer Lounge.  I had been planning on going to see Wayne 'The Train' Hancock that night at the Lion's Lair but he canceled.  A friend had already made it downtown to see that show too so I suggested that we go check out Split Lip Rayfield instead.

We biked on over there from Cap Hill and had our minds blown.  I was an instant fan.  I think all their albums are great and worth seeking out if your a fan of some frantic bluegrass.  Really good song writing too.

Sadly they lost one of the main members Kirk Rundstrom to cancer in 2007.  After taking a much needed breather.  They returned to the road in 2008 as a tribute to Kirk.   This show was from that tour at Quixotes True Blue in Denver CO.

In more recent bad news SLR member Wayne Gottstine also is having a bout with cancer.  Go seek out some official band product, or I bet he might have a kickstarter, if you so inclined to send some support to the band or him directly.

Hell of a setlist on this cold night back in 2008.  I had remembered this one as being not so good with a shitty crowd.  Time has faded whatever perceived faults I thought this had.  The crowd is pretty rowdy but it doesn't  over power the music.  Enjoy.
