Murder City Devils @ The Starlight, Ft Collins, CO 2000-03-11

These guys were a force of nature on a tiny stage.  I was lucky enough to catch them when they were a rock and roll beast.  Like and angry rooster with blades on it's feet cutting everything up in it's path..  This post documents a cold March weekend back in 2000.  Doesn't seem like it was 11 year ago but I guess it was.

The main recording is of the show MCD played at the greatly loved, and greatly missed, Starlight in Ft Collins Colorado.  Tacked on to the end are a few tracks from the night before at the also greatly loved and much missed 15th Street Tavern.

The doors were at 3:30 or so and MCD played about 5.  It was weird being in a bar watching rock and roll so early.  They played so early because The Royal Crown Revue was playing later that night at the same venue.  Anybody remember the swing revival?  Yeah that's what I thought.  I also thought they were dicks for making The Amazing Royal Crowns change their name.  Anyway....

Here is my recording of the night with some extra songs from the 15th Street Tavern the night before.

Lydia Loveless @ Hi Dive, Denver, CO 2011-11-12

Became a big fan of this lady in short order.  Clever song writing and she plays a telecaster.  What's not to love.  If you haven't heard of her go find her stuff and buy it up right now.  Saying she's kind of a more white trashy Neko Case might be a fitting description.

The crowd kind of sucked and was really chatty.  At one point before she starts a song Lydia can be heard to say, kind of under her breath to the inattentive crowd, "And then what happened?"

Maybe they were all there to see Centro Matic and didn't know who she was.  If you don't care enough to watch the band with out loud talking for the entire set, don't stand in front of the stage and yap yap yap.  Go stand by the bar at least.  It's fucking rude.

Tin Horn Prayer Live @ 3 Kings Tavern, 2011-06-25

Tin Horn Prayer quickly has become one my very favorite homegrown bands.  From the first time I saw them play I was hooked.  They are made up of guys from lots of great bands, Pinhead Circus, Only Thunder, Blackout Pact, to name a few.  I guess you could call them folk punk for lack of a better genre tag.
This show is from a Tom Waits themed showcase of bands that all paid tribute to the man in their own ways.  We get treated to a couple Tom Waits covers from the Tin Horn Prayer boys.  Check it out and enjoy.

Tin Horn Prayer  is
Mike Herrera, Andy Thomas, Scooter James, Ethan Steenson, Dan Gilbert, Eric Epling

Chuck Ragan live at 3 Kings Tavern, 2010-08-08

This was from a fun night.  It was Only Thunder's last show.  To Be Eaten was also on the bill.  I love shows that are all over the map music wise but just seem to make sense when your standing there watching it.  This is Chuck Ragan's set from that night.   He is accompanied by his crackerjack band featuring Jon Gaunt, Joe Ginsberg, Mitchell Townsend.  The big surprise of the night is when Chuck is joined on stage by Tim McIlrath from Rise Against.  Chuck is great live and I really hope he gets the Revival Tour back in the States sometime in 2012.  Here is my recording of this night.  Enjoy

Kyuss Lives & The Sword, Denver, CO (USA) 2011-10-04

I got to see the original Kyuss back in 1993 opening for Faith No More at the Gothic theater.  Babes In Toyland was also on the bill.  I think it was on the Blues For The Red Sun tour.  At the time I wasn't blown away.  Maybe I was just so much more excited to see FNM on the Angel Dust tour.  Maybe it just wasn't that good.  I like all the recorded output after Blues much better as well.

I'd long given up hope of a Kyuss reunion in most part due to Josh's success with Queens Of The Stone Age.  So I was thrilled to hear that Jon Garcia was starting to do Kyuss shows branded as Garcia sings Kyuss and that slowly turned into the semi reunion that is Kyuss Lives.

I've heard people say that it wasn't the same with out Josh but I think they are wrong.  These songs stand on their own and I thought the band sounded great.  Anyway I recorded their set so you can check it out for yourself.  I botched part of my recording of The Sword but I did get 5 good songs.  I'm posting that at the bottom as well.  Enjoy

Old Man Markley @ 3 Kings Tavern, Denver CO 2011-09-24

Old Man Markley is one of those bands that when I first heard their album I wasn't super impressed.  Not that I thought it was bad or I didn't like it but it just didn't grab me for some reason.  Still I had heard that they were great live and was looking forward to checking them out.  Seeing them play these songs just clicked the light blub on.  Oh I totally get it now was my reaction.  Some times you just have to see music live to get it.

Here is my recording from that night.  Enjoy.

The Best of the Suburban Home 16th Anniversary shows. September 9th and 10th 2011

These shows have sort of become the official end of summer party for me every year.  Just borderline hoodie weather.  When it always feels really good to step out of the hot rock club into the cool night.

Once again a great line up of bands came out to Denver to celebrate yet another year of Virgil Dickerson's Suburban Home Records.  Happy sweet 16 Virgil!!  Already looking forward to next years shows.

Here is a little best of from the weekend.  A couple songs each from all the artists that played.
Enjoy the tunes, go buy some music and support these, totally worthy of your attention, bands.

Ryan Adams, @ Su Teatro, Denver CO 2011-09-15

Well this show was an extra special treat.  I've been a huge Ryan Adams fan for a long time now but I've only seen him 2 times before and never had I seen him solo acoustic.  This show was quietly announced on Tuesday and tickets went on sale on Thursday.  It sold out in less then 5 minutes.  I was lucky enough to make it through the ticket master gauntlet and score a pair of tickets.  So glad I did as his performance was stellar.

Here is my recording of the event.  I would prefer that if you download this and if you want to share it just share the link to this blog.  The links at the bottom of the post to the FLACs and MP3s are good for unlimited downloads.  Thanks.  Enjoy.

Soundgarden @ Redrocks, Morrison, CO 2011-07-18

Soundgarden is back touring again and stopped at Redrocks in Morrision, CO on July 18th 2011.  It was great seeing them play again after a 15 year absense.  Chris still sounds great and the band was tight.
This is my recording from right in front of the speaker array in the 10th row.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  Redrocks can be a tough venue to get a good recording in with all the outside weather variables.
Enjoy

Soundgarden @ the Mammoth Event Center, Denver, CO 1996-11-07

In anticipation of Soundgardens return to Colorado on Monday July 18th here is the last time they were in town.  Way back when the Fillmore was called Mammoth Events Center.  Rocket From The Crypt and Tenderloin opened the show.  I wasn't recording shows back then so hats off to whoever the taper was.  He did a pretty good job considering how awful the Mammoth sounded most of the time.  At one point in the show Ben Shepard chastises the audience and says "You probably don't even know who the Fluid is do you Denver?"  Sadly he was probably right.  Enjoy.

Slobberbone, Denver, CO 2003-06-08

Slobberbone quickly became one of my very favorite bands in 2003.  I came to the party late and hadn't even heard the band until their Slippage release.  I was sold with that one and picked up everything I could get.

It bummed me out when they said that they were going to break up in 2005.  I drove to Lincoln Nebraska to see one of the farewell shows even.  I might post that at some point but until then here is a soundboard recording from the second time I got to see them at the World's Famous Lion's Lair.  This was back when the stage used to be behind the bar.  Man I loved that layout.  There was nothing like watching a band front row with bar service.  I see that they are back together now and have been playing some shows this year.  I would love to see them come back to Denver someday.  Fingers crossed.

Here is a pretty recent full band Drag The River show.  Nice to hear some of the new songs that were on Demons with a full electric band.  Some nice covers in this set as well.  It's been a long time since I've heard them play Indianapolis.

Queens Of The Stone Age, Denver CO, 2011-04-08, Ogden Theater

Queens Of The Stone Age returned to Denver after a long absence.  I don't think that I have seen them since 2003 when they played the Fillmore.  I also don't recall that they even came to Denver on the Era Vulgaris tour.  So I was pretty excited for this show.
This tour was to celibrate the re-release of the self titled album.  Queens's played all the songs from it and the b-side The Bronze.  The second set was mostly newer material.  Here is my recording of the night.  Enjoy.

WM3 Benefit show, Rollins Band (W/Keith Morris), Denver, CO 2003-06-26, BLACK FLAG sets!!!!

This was a benefit show for the West Memphis Three.  If you don't know who they are and care about injustice check out their story.  http://www.wm3.org/.  This show was to raise money for new DNA testing.  It's going on almost 8 year now since this show and there has been a little progress but they are all still in jail.
Hopefully someday soon justice will be served.  These men can be cleared and the real perp can be identified

This is my recording of that night.  Again this is one that I pulled out of the vault and did a new transfer and remaster.  2 Black Flag sets from Keith and Henry with a couple of Ramones tunes thrown in at the end.  Check it out.

Blazing red hot Rock N' Roll in Boulder Colorado.  This was right before their 2nd album came out and the set is full of numbers from it.  If I recall correctly The Hookers opened up.  I don't think that I had ever transferred it off of the master until now.  Check it out.

Drive-by Truckers @ The Lion's Lair, Denver, CO 2002-08-16

"Hey Do that one were you clap really loud and buy us whiskey.  Oh we can't make requests?" - Jason Isbell

The Drive-by Truckers are coming to Denver this upcoming weekend to play a two night stand at the Ogden Theater.  It got me to thinking about the 1st time that I saw them.  It was at a much smaller venue.  The (Worlds Famous) Lion's Lair.  That place holds about 100 people give or take.  Patterson Hood says during the show that this was the 1st time that they had every played in Colorado.

Their visit was on the tour cycle for Southern Rock Opera but we got treated to a bunch of new songs that ended up on Decoration day.  It was one hell of a show.  This got posted on torrents years ago and has made the rounds or DBT traders I'm sure.  This is a fresh transfer from the original master and a new round of clean up and remastering.  Enjoy
