Blink-182 @ Warped Tour, Denver CO, 1999-07-11

This was on the same mini disc as Less Than Jake. Figured I might as well post it too.  More Warped Tour madness.  Good excuse to employee the little used Eyeball font in the cover image too.

Full Of Hell @ Syntax Psychic Opera, Denver CO, 2019-05-28

Not for the faint of heart.  Full of Hell are a brutal, beautiful, maelstrom.  Show of the year?  Maybe, maybe not but easily in the top 5.  Anticipated this show for months before it happened.  Was not disappointed in the least.  Enjoy.

Ice-T @ Warped Tour, Denver CO, 1999-07-11

Here is another from my 1999 Warped Tour recordings.   Ice-T right before he went on to be in Law and Order.  Ice spends a fair amount of time kicking the knowledge as he might say.  Was a big fan from Power on so I remember being stoked to catch the Iceberg.

While promoting his new internet only released Seventh Deadly Sin he asks the crowd if they even know what the internet is.  This doesn't feel that long ago but 20 years will creep up on you.

I think I get into the pit slightly during There Goes The Neighborhood.  Sound is a bit blown out there.  Otherwise a fun listenable audience recording.  Enjoy

Hank Von Hell @ Oriental Theater, Denver CO, 2019-08-17

Former singer of the band Turbonegro is back with own band and fresh batch of death punk ditties.

Fun enough show.  Hank sure can be long winded at times.  Interestingly the band had no on stage amps and just played direct into the sound system.  Effected the overall sound a bit I think.  Not as in or face and a stage full of amps would have been.   Sure makes it easier to tour I bet.

Less Than Jake @ Warped Tour, Denver CO, 1999-07-11

Pretty fun year for Warped tour.  Lots of great bands.  This year it was in the north parking lot of the original Mile High Stadium.

Here is a short but rowdy set from Less Than Jake.  Right before Automatic one of the horn section guys says "Fuck John Elway and the Denver Broncos" right in the shadow of the stadium.  I thought it was pretty funny but many in the crowd did not and started to throw stuff at the band.  Mostly unsuccessfully.  Later the band chastises the crowd for having such bad aim and makes another dig at the Broncos.   Good stuff.

BR5-49 @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2000-12-30

Another one from awhile back.  Shifting gears from UK punk to some American honky tonk.
BR5-49 put on a monster show.  30 plus songs over almost 2 hours.  Great originals and a lot of choice covers.

I had forgotten how much I liked how this recording turned out.  Very enjoyable listen.
Fresh transfer  from the master for this post.

Being right before New Years eve with the Railbenders opening for them this crowd was primed to party.  Good times.

The Damned @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2001-10-07

I guess I'll keep going on the UK punk rocks shows in Denver during the aughts theme.

Here is The Damned at the Bluebird in 2001.  My first time seeing them.  Oh course they were fantastic.  Captain Sensible is super chatty this night.  Lots of the hits and some song from their new record at the time Grave Disorder.

During the time of this show I was Supersuckers fanatic.  The Supersuckers recorded a song called The Captain for their country record Must've Been High.  It's a not so flattering ode to Mr. Sensible about a time they tried to work together in the studio and it just didn't work out.

Being a cheeky little monkey I wore my orange Supersuckers shirt with a 100 proof evil sheriff's badge on the front to the show.   After the show The Damned were hanging out next to their rented RV signing stuff and talking to fans.  I joined in the small crowd and eventually asked The Captain if he would sign my shirt thinking it would be funny.  Suspecting that he might see it was a Supersuckers shirt and tell me to fuck off.  But nope.  He says "Sure mate".  Takes my sharpie pen and writes really big " Phil Collins Must DIE!   - Captain Sensible".  I look at it to see what he wrote and he goes "Pretty funny ye Mate".  Indeed Captain, indeed.

Most likely traded this out some on CDR but I don't think I ever torrented it.  This is a fresh transfer from the original masters.  An enjoyable listen I think.

UK Subs @ Lion's Lair, Denver CO 2002-08021

Here is the second show I caught on that hot August night back in 2002.  This was back when the stage at the Lion's Lair was right behind the bar and not back in the corner by the window where it is now.  Charlie Harper mentions it atone point.  They have played lots of shows with barricades but the barricade was never the bar.

Sound starts off a bit rough but gets better.   Epic night.

Sonic Youth @ Ogden Theater, Denver CO 2002-08-21

Here is part 1 of a series.  2 bands I saw at two different venues in one night.  First up my friend Tom and I caught Sonic Youth at the Ogden Theater.   Then we went down the street to catch the UK Subs at the Lion's Lair.  Fun night.

I recall that it was insanely hot in the Ogden this night.   There was a literal heat wall between the lobby and the venue.   I remember it being so sweltering that I listened from the lobby for a good portion of the show.

This is from SY's tour for Murray Street.  Nice mix of old and new and the band seems really into it.

I was bummed that I had to miss this show but lucky for me and y'all a fellow taper here in Colorado captured this in all it's quirky glory.  There is no one like the Dead Milkmen.  Not even close.

Giant setlist covering their entire repertoire.  All the hits.  Sounds like a really fun night was had.
Jason got a really nice capture of this and I think it sounds fantastic.  Enjoy.

Here is fun one from a ways back.  Bad Religion at the Ogden Theater in Denver Colorado on the first night of a two night stand.  On tour for the The Process of Belief album.

Split Lip Rayfield @ Larimer Lounge, 2005-04-01 & 02

Here is a treat I had kinda forgotten about.  Sick day at home so I was poking around on a backup drive and found these 2005 Split Lip Rayfield shows at the Larimer Lounge.  They played two nights in a row and were on fire.

In my opinion this is them at the height of their powers.  Wasn't the same after Kirk died.

These aren't the complete shows but are only missing a song or too and the soundboard audio mix is really nice.  Had a fantastic time revisiting these today.  Enjoy.

Denver Electric Funeral Festival is always a good time.  40 bands across 2 days and 3 venues.  Mostly metal and metal adjacent acts.  I always end up catching a band I have never seen before that I really enjoy.

Dead Meadow was one of those bands this year.  Really fantastic live band.  Enjoy

Haven't posted anything from the Lantz archive for awhile.  Here is a fun one.  KMFDM live at the Gothic Theater back in May of 1991.  On tour for the Naïve album.

Pretty sure this is the complete set.  A couple other shows from this era include Piggybank in the set.

Again pretty good quality n light of the source equipment.  Very listenable.  Had a good time working this out up to post.  Enjoy.

Slobberbone @ Duffy's Tavern, Lincoln NE, 2005-03-06

Thought I had lost this show forever due to a hard drive crash years ago.  Lost a bunch of recordings from 2005.  Found another big live Slobberbone collector online.  And when I contacted him initially he didn't have this show.  Fast forward a few months and he messaged me saying he had just received it in a trade and sent it too me.  Glad to have it back so I figured I would post it up.

This was billed as Slobberbone's last tour.  Band was calling it quits.  No Denver date so I drove to Nebraska to catch them one more time.  Was not disappointed it was a fantastic show.  Only bummer was Two Cow Garage were supposed to open up and couldn't make it.  Would have been my first time seeing them,    Plus side we got a nice long Slobberbone set.

This was recorded with the mic placed on top of a hanging pool table light.  I think it sounds pretty nice and the crowd isn't too chatty.  Enjoy.

Monolord @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2019-05-02

Caught some of their set at Psycho Vegas last year.  Chose to go watch All Pigs Must Die instead.
Too many bands not enough time.

Was excited to catch a headlining set in Denver a few weeks back.  I think their records are fantastic but Monolord excel as a live band.  This is the best way to experience bands like this.  Smallish room, stoked crowd, loud PA blaring.

Love seeing metal at the Hi Dive too.  Great room for it.  I think it sounds really good in there.
As a result this turned out really nice.  Enjoy

Queens Of The Stone Age @ Ogden Theater, Denver CO, 1999-04-19

This is the 20th anniversary of the first time I recorded live audio at a concert.  I had been thinking about doing it for awhile.  I was way into live recordings and at this point I was buying a few of the unauthorized CDs that were floating around.  I had an website for trading CDRs and was starting to acquire a good collection.

I vaguely knew what it took to make recordings.  I had copies of a cassette with Slayer and Megadeth's sets from the Redrocks Clash of the Titans tour stop that my friends cousin had made. It was pretty rough but a fun listen. I though I could do a better job so it planted a little seed.

Then years later I meet a guy at a Foo Fighters in 96 or 97 who I saw messing with his DAT tape deck.  He was a bit cagey but nice enough to answer some questions for me about his gear.  That really peaked my interest and I started looking into gear.

My first foray was a minidisc recorder and some small coresound binaural mics.   I did a few test runs at home but the first in the field run was at Smashing Pumpkins show with Queens of the Stone Age opening.

I botched the Pumpkins recording and don't think I'll be sharing that one but I managed to capture 99% of the Queens of The Stone Age set.

I hadn't listened to this recording for a long time and I recall it being way worse than it is.  My gear wasn't quite equipped to handle the loud volume of a big show like that so there is some clipping and distortion.   I've polished it up as much as I could and it's more than listenable.

I figured it was a nice enough to share a a glimpse into where I started on this odd hobby.  It's been a fun 20 years and I have seen and recorded so many amazing things since then.  I have also met a ton of fantastic people over these years in relation to live music that I call friends to this day.

I don't get out and record nearly as much as in my heyday but I don't stopping anytime soon either.  It's become as much of an obsession as a hobby.

So here is my first recording every.  Enjoy.

Cannibal Corpse @ Oriental Theater, Denver CO, 2019-03-01

Capital B Brutal death metal show on Friday.  Decibel Magazine's annual tour has a ridiculously stacked line up this year.  The Denver stop featured Blood Incantation, Necrot, Morbid Angel and the mighty Cannibal Corpse.  Hands down one of the very best meal packages I have ever seen.  Every band slayed.  So much fun.  Great crowd too.

I'm enjoying seeing shows at the Oriental lately.  They have really fixed it up and gave the sound system a much needed boast.  Great room.

Go see live music.  Buy merch direct from the band and help keep art alive.

Yawning Man @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2019-01-25

Still kicking myself for missing Fatso Jetson at the Hi Dive last year.  No good excuse.  When I saw Mario Lalli was bringing Yawning Man out on tour I knew I didn't want to miss that.

They did not disappoint.  Killer set for the crowd of faithful.

If you ever get a chance to see any of Mario's bands don't miss it.

Reverend Beat-Man & Sister Nicole Izobel Garcia @ Pipers Opera House, Virginia City NV, 2018-04-15

Slovenly Records / Sticker Guy's Debauch-A-Reno Fest 2018 was a ton of fun.  Saw a bunch of killer bands.  Bought some great records.  Had a fun time bopping around Reno.

Big treat for me was the chance to get to see Reverend Beat-Man twice.  I think the last time he rolled through Denver was 2010ish.  He doesn't make it over to the USA very often.  This time he brought his partner in crime Sister Nicole Izobel Garcia.

This show was a festival wind down show South of Reno in the mountains in the town of Virginia City.  An old mining town with an old opera house and lots of character.  And characters.

Short but sweet set.  Enjoy.
