The Briefs @ The Summit Music Hall, Denver CO, 2016-06-02

It had been well over a decade since I had seen the Briefs.  The last time was in the early aughts at the Climax Lounge in Denver.  They came out on stage and instead of their normal skinny ties they all had grocery store trout hanging from their necks.  That lasted maybe 30 seconds before the fish got tossed into the crowd.  And then tossed back on stage.  A super gross game of catch.  Fish ended up smashed all over the floor.

I was glad not to get a repeat of that night.  Just all the punk rock hits.  Enjoy

The Bronx @ The Riot Room, Kansas City MO, 2016-06-17

Hell Yeah!!!!  The Bronx rules!!!!  This isn't my recording but the audio was passed to me by my friend Jim Hucks (Denco83) to post on my site since I'm a big fan.  You can check out his video of the show here.

The Bronx are a band that I have loved from the first note of theirs that I ever heard.  I was immediately a fan.  One of the select bands that I own pretty much all of their releases and I have seen many many times.

So I was extra stoked that Jim shared this with me.  It my pleasure to share it with you now.  Enjoy

Steely Dan @ Red Rocks, Morrison CO, 2016-06-13

I can appreciate that Steely Dan is a great band, and Steve Winwood who opened, but it's just not the kind of music I listen to on a regular basic.  Nor are these kind of concerts where you would normally find me.

A good friend called me months ago and floated the idea of me tagging along on for this one and I figured why not.  I had never seen Steely Dan or Steve Winwood.  Red Rocks is always an amazing experience too.

Well I definitely got more than I had bargained for in the experience department at this show.  About 15 minutes into Steve Winwood's set it started raining.  It had been intermittently sprinkling on and off all afternoon so not a big surprise.  Then it started coming down really hard and a man came on the stage and said "the show isn't canceled but you should go seek shelter right now".  Then it started hailing.  For about 15 minutes straight.  Marble to pea sized in general.  Not fun.  We hunkered down and waited for it to blow over.  I got totally soaked.  On the plus side it stayed pretty warm after the weather blew over.

Recording at Red Rocks can be tough.  After the weather blew through we were blessed with a totally calm night with damp heavy air.  That contributed to some great acoustics.  Even though I wasn't very close I think this turned out really nice.  Enjoy!!

Too Tall Dan Blowing Some Harmonica. R.I.P. Dan Utter

Not a post that I wanted to make for sure.  It's been a few months since Dan passed and he is very much missed by myself and his many friends and family.  He was a big presence and won't soon be forgotten.

I tried to get started on this compilation of Dan sitting in with various people not long after he passed but it was just to hard to revisit those memories at the time.  This weekend it felt like it was time and I enjoyed hearing my old friend do one of the things he loved the most.  Playing the harmonica.

He was a friendly gregarious dude so he had gotten to know a lot of musicians over the years.  He got to sit in and blow harp with lots and lots of people.  This small comp doesn't even scratch the surface.  I went though my archive of live recordings and pulled out what I though were some nice sounding examples of Dan doing his thing.  Even if you didn't know my friend Dan there are some nice tracks here with Jon Snodgrass from Drag The River, Cory Branan, Michael Dean Dameron, Bryan Hartley, and Lenny Lashley.  Enjoy.
