Pearl Jam @ Red Rocks, Morrison CO, 1995-06-20

Back in the 90s there were a bunch of different labels, a lot of them in Italy, that pressed silver CDs of live performances.  Bootlegs is the common term for these.  Artists and mostly record companies didn't like them claiming lost revenue.  No fan of a band was going to buy one of these over the bands official releases though.  And the big fans, like myself, have all that official stuff and wanted more.

You had to know were to go to find this stuff.  I picked this Pearl Jam boot up and Recycled Tapes & Records at Kipling and I-70.  It was pricey compared to a retail CD.  I think I paid $30-40 for this 2CD set.   It's an audience recording but sounds pretty good to me.  I love this stuff though and this inspired me to start recording shows myself a few years later.

I was excited to find this as I went to 1 of the 2 shows that PJ played at Red Rocks that summer. I went to the show the day before on the 19th.  This is all of the show from the 20th but the last 4 tracks are from the 19th.   Bad Religion opened and kicked ass.  I wish a recording of that would surface.

Enjoy

Elvis Costello @ The Warfield, San Francisco CA, 1984-04-28

This recording was on a cassette from the Kat George archive of live tapes.  Like the Knitters show that I posted a while back.  Kat didn't record this one her friend Ken Spears did.  I think it sounds pretty good and was going to share it and found that there was another more complete source of this show out there already so I put it on the back burner.

Last week I saw the news that Elvis was putting out a record with T Bone Burnett called The Coward Brothers.  I recalled that this was the tour where they coined that title.  They play a bunch of songs together at the end of this show.  40 years later they finally got around to recording an album together.  I bet they had been talking about it on and off since this tour.

To my ear this sounds like it was recorded from the front of  the balcony because the crowd noise is pretty subdued.  Very quite and respectful crowd while he is playing too.  Makes for a great listen.  Enjoy.

Pissed Jeans @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2024-11-09

Happy 21st Birthday Hi Dive!!  My favorite small room in Denver hands down.  I've been going there to some degree all 21 years.  Kind of wild.  Here is to many more years!  Cheers!

For their birthday they booked Pissed Jeans.  A band that I have been into since the aughts.  I'm sure I heard Hope For Men when it came out in 2007.  Instant fan.  I've enjoyed all of their catalog.  They don't ever play a lot of shows and had never come to Denver before so this was an instant ticket buy as soon as I heard the announcement.

Fantastic stacked lineup with 4 of the best local bands doing it right now.  Pissed Jeans played a set with a lot of new songs from Half Divorced and some classics too.  Sounded great too I thought.  Enjoy.

Ghost Buffalo @ Three Kings Tavern, Denver CO, 2008-02-28

I have been listening to the new Planes Mistake For Stars album "Do You Still Love Me?" a lot lately.  The album was made while front man Gared O'Donnell was under going treatment for cancer.  A heavy situation for sure and the album reflects that.  He passed after completing his vocals and guitars.  The band finished it up posthumously. I highly recommend checking it out.  A beautiful document of friends dealing with life and doing the thing they loved the most together.  It got me to thinking about Matt Bellinger.

The first song on the album is "Matthew Is Dead".  It is about founding PMFS member Matt Bellinger.  He left PMFS to pursue the band he started with his wife Marie Litton called Ghost Buffalo.  The got branded as alt country by the record label but I never really thought that fit.  It sound like post rock Neil Young for lack of a better description.  Live is where they shined and I saw them a bunch of times.  I think I have 12 recordings from a 2 or 3 year run.

Matt had a pretty distinct guitar style so Ghost Buffalo has that edgy PMFS sound. Paired with Marie's solid guitar chops and fantastic lyrics they were a power house.  Their last album The Magician is a all killer no filler record.  Seek it out. I got to know Matt a bit in the late aughts and one time worked witgh him to compiled a "Live Ghost Buffalo" comp that the band sold on CDR at shows.  I tried to find my copy of that or even the files I compiled for it and came up empty.  It got me listening to my recordings and wanting to share one.

This show was at Three Kings Tavern on February 28th.  Git Some headlined and Only Thunder and Handsome Bobby were also on the bill.  So many fun nights at 3K.

This sounds really nice I think and I hope you enjoy it.   RIP Matt.
