Modest Mouse @ Riot Fest, Denver CO 2015-08-29

I've been a Modest Mouse fan a long time.  I believe that the first thing that I heard from them was a live bootleg.  It's kind of weird off kilter music with weird off kilter lyrics.  I loved it from the start.

I don't think that I have seen them live though since 2001.  I'm sure that they have come back to town since then but I never made it out.  I think they might have played some festival shows or opened up for bands that I wasn't interested in going to see.  So I was happy to see them on the Riot Fest lineup.

They have some many songs that I wanted to hear I knew that no set list would totally satisfy me and I was right.  But overall I was happy with the song selection.

Despite it being so windy I think this turned out really nice.  As I have said before.  Outdoor recording can be hit or miss.  Enjoy

Drive Like Jehu x2, Denver CO 2015-08-29 & 30

Riot Fest started coming to the Denver area 3 years ago and one thing that they have been really good at is getting John Reis's bands on the line up.  First year was RFTC, 2nd year was Hot Snakes, and this year it was Drive Like Jehu.

Jehu is one of those bands that I just figured I would never see live.  So what a treat that they were not only playing Riot Fest but playing an after show as well.

If your a casual fan I would grab the show from the Marquis.  They play more songs and the recording sound better.  It's always tough to get a good recording outside in a big parking lot.  That night was plagued by high winds and a crazy amount of dust.  That 3rd photo isn't someone testing out a smoke machine.  That shows the amount of dust that was  blowing around.  Enjoy

Foo Fighters @ Mercury Cafe, Denver CO 1995-04-15

The year was 1995.  Kurt Cobain was dead and Pearl Jam mania was in full swing.  I was a fan of both of those bands and I believe that I had already heard some Foo Fighters music on one of Pearl Jam's Self Pollution radio broadcasts.  So when I heard they were coming to town I definitely wanted to go.

I didn't pick up a ticket though.  They were opening up for Mike Watt and were kind of under the radar.  The show was also the day I was getting back from talking my daughter to Disney Land out in California.  I was gonna play it by ear and see how I felt after driving all day.  I didn't think it would sell out.

Then while we were in California I saw on MTV news that word was out Eddie Veddar was playing in Watts band and his wife's band Hovercraft was opening up.   It sold out immediately after that.

I didn't even bother to try and go.  I of course heard glowing breathless reviews of how great it was.  So years latter I was super glad to get a copy of this recording.  I'm not sure who the taper was and I have no idea what gear was used.  It's also not the best recording ever.  A solid B+ though and totally listenable.

Thanks to Dan Utter for the mastering tweeks.  Enjoy

Faith No More @ Redrocks, Morrison CO 2015-09-08

Since I have an amazing wife I got to see Faith No More back in 2010 when we routed our month long honeymoon trip to end up in Sydney Australia.  They has just reformed and were playing a handful of shows.  It was great time in a less than cozy venue.  The giant Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney.

The time before that FNM played at the Ogden Theater in Denver CO back in 1997.  Limp Bizkit opened up if you can believe that.  So after an absence of 18 years, and the fact that they were playing at the stunning Redrocks, I knew that I couldn't miss this show.

Recording out of doors can be tough but I'm really happy with how this turned out.  Big thanks to my friend Dave for helping block the loud party people.

Enjoy
