Murder City Devils @ The Starlight, Ft Collins, CO 2000-03-11

These guys were a force of nature on a tiny stage.  I was lucky enough to catch them when they were a rock and roll beast.  Like and angry rooster with blades on it's feet cutting everything up in it's path..  This post documents a cold March weekend back in 2000.  Doesn't seem like it was 11 year ago but I guess it was.

The main recording is of the show MCD played at the greatly loved, and greatly missed, Starlight in Ft Collins Colorado.  Tacked on to the end are a few tracks from the night before at the also greatly loved and much missed 15th Street Tavern.

The doors were at 3:30 or so and MCD played about 5.  It was weird being in a bar watching rock and roll so early.  They played so early because The Royal Crown Revue was playing later that night at the same venue.  Anybody remember the swing revival?  Yeah that's what I thought.  I also thought they were dicks for making The Amazing Royal Crowns change their name.  Anyway....

Here is my recording of the night with some extra songs from the 15th Street Tavern the night before.

Lydia Loveless @ Hi Dive, Denver, CO 2011-11-12

Became a big fan of this lady in short order.  Clever song writing and she plays a telecaster.  What's not to love.  If you haven't heard of her go find her stuff and buy it up right now.  Saying she's kind of a more white trashy Neko Case might be a fitting description.

The crowd kind of sucked and was really chatty.  At one point before she starts a song Lydia can be heard to say, kind of under her breath to the inattentive crowd, "And then what happened?"

Maybe they were all there to see Centro Matic and didn't know who she was.  If you don't care enough to watch the band with out loud talking for the entire set, don't stand in front of the stage and yap yap yap.  Go stand by the bar at least.  It's fucking rude.

Tin Horn Prayer Live @ 3 Kings Tavern, 2011-06-25

Tin Horn Prayer quickly has become one my very favorite homegrown bands.  From the first time I saw them play I was hooked.  They are made up of guys from lots of great bands, Pinhead Circus, Only Thunder, Blackout Pact, to name a few.  I guess you could call them folk punk for lack of a better genre tag.
This show is from a Tom Waits themed showcase of bands that all paid tribute to the man in their own ways.  We get treated to a couple Tom Waits covers from the Tin Horn Prayer boys.  Check it out and enjoy.

Tin Horn Prayer  is
Mike Herrera, Andy Thomas, Scooter James, Ethan Steenson, Dan Gilbert, Eric Epling

Chuck Ragan live at 3 Kings Tavern, 2010-08-08

This was from a fun night.  It was Only Thunder's last show.  To Be Eaten was also on the bill.  I love shows that are all over the map music wise but just seem to make sense when your standing there watching it.  This is Chuck Ragan's set from that night.   He is accompanied by his crackerjack band featuring Jon Gaunt, Joe Ginsberg, Mitchell Townsend.  The big surprise of the night is when Chuck is joined on stage by Tim McIlrath from Rise Against.  Chuck is great live and I really hope he gets the Revival Tour back in the States sometime in 2012.  Here is my recording of this night.  Enjoy
