I've seen Ministry a bunch of times over the years since the 90s.  I think it's fair to say that it's been hit or miss.  Though they have definitely been on an up swing in recent years.  Good to see.  

This show was all hit for me.  Sounded good.  Interesting setlist and a surprise appearance by Paul Barker.  Enjoy.

Today I'm featuring another MarcR recording from his DAT archive.  This time UK shoegaze / hard rock band Catherine Wheel.  Named for a medieval torture device and on tour for their 1995 album "Happy Days", they played the Bluebird Theatre in Denver Colorado on August 1st 1995.  Not a band I was very familiar with other than their hit "Black Metallic".  They stretch that number out to over 10 minutes on this night.

Good sound and not much chatter.  Enjoy.

Here is an Old 97's show that I haven't shared before.  This show was part of the annual Triple A radio conference that was/is held at the Fox in Boulder every year.  They were on tour for the "Drag It Up" album this year.   They play a few songs from that and then some classics.  

I've been a big fan of these guys for a long time.  The are still at it today and putting out new music.

Nice sound on this one and I love they played "Dressing Room Walls"  Enjoy.

Acid Bath @ Red Rocks, Morrison CO, 2026-09-15

 

I totally missed the boat on these guys in the 90s.  I know I was aware of them but in that time you had to own a physical media to hear most anything underground.  After reading some of the press about their resurgence it sounds like CD distribution wasn't great and their management kind of screwed them over.  It wasn't until last year before their December Denver appearance that I really dug in and gave their material a good listen.  I'm sure I would have been into it had I heard it back in the day.

It can be really tough to get a nice recording at Red Rocks.  The wind will often make it sound not so good.  On this night we were blessed with almost perfect weather and getting there early I got a great place to record from.   This was a hell of a show with Cephalic Carnage, Windhand, Twin Tribes, & Ministy also on the bill.

This recording is a matrix of my recording and bluejane99's.  He did the work to combine these and I really like the result.  Enjoy.

Today I present a Red Fang show from Three Kings Tavern back on October 26th 2010.  These guys just came through with the Sword and played a much larger venue.  Back in 2010 the just had their first self titled album, and a few tour EPs out.  At this show they did play a bunch of songs from the then upcoming album "Murder In The Mountains" that didn't come out until March of 2011.

Not sure why I never had shared this one.  Great setlist and good sound.  Enjoy.

I love the Melvins and have seen them a ton.  At least 30 times.  I have recordings of 20 of those I think. So it has gotten to the point were I don't feel obligated to see them every single time these days.  Of course them with Tomahawk was too good to pass up.  Great set from them and cool to see the double drummer set up in action again.

Amazing setlist and I think this sounds pretty nice.  Very little crowd chatter.  This recording is a combination of mine and another taper bluejane99's left and right side captures.  He created this matrix of the two with nice results.  Enjoy.

Drag The River @ Gothic Theatre, Englewood CO, 2002-11-07

I'm looking forward to the full band Drag The River shows that they have announced for the end of the year.  So while looking for something to post I saw I had never shared this 2002 DTR set from when they opened up for Hank III and Legendary Shake Shackers at the Gothic Theatre in Englewood Colorado on November 7th 2002.  The line up back then was Jon Snodgrass - vocals, guitar, Chad Price - vocals, guitar, Paul Rucker - drums, J.J. Grueter - bass, & Zach Boddicker - guitar.

They had only released Hobo Demos and Closed so all the songs are from those except Dirty Lips, which they didn't put out until 2006, and some choice covers.  Great board mix capture for this and fun short set.  Enjoy.

Cobalt @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2016-09-24

This is a Colorado deep cut to most I imagine.  Cobalt started in Greeley Colorado in the early aughts  by childhood friends Phil McSorley and Erik Wunder. They put out a string of very well received,  interesting, experimental black metal albums between 2003 to 2009.  During the recording of the album "Slow Forever" Phil left the band as was replaced by Charlie Fell.  Erik Wunder died too young at 42 in 2025.

They didn't tour a whole lot and when they did they recruited outside bass and guitar players to fill out the band.  For this 2016 tour they were joined by Jonathan Campos from Primitive Man on bass and Shane McCarthy from Wayfarer on guitar.  This tour was the most extensive that they ever did across the US with 21 shows.  The tour was joined by German duo Mantar.  Denver was the final homecoming stop.  Original vocalist Phil McSorley came out and sang Gin with the band.

It had been awhile since I had listened to this.  What a great show with songs from across their catalog.

Here is audio of Nashville Pussy at the Bluebird Theatre in Denver Colorado back on 1998-09-17.  Jim Hucks shot video of this and sent me the audio to share.  Nashville Pussy was touring behind their debut album "Let Them Eat Pussy".  Most of the set is from that but there are a few new at the time songs and cool cover.  I didn't see this particular show but saw them at the Fox in Boulder with The Hookers around this same time.  Powerhouse live rock n roll band.

Here is another of my 1999 Warped Tour recordings.  Today Suicidal Tendencies!!  At the beginning Mike says that they hadn't been here in 5 years.  I think this might have been my first time seeing them but I had been a fan since the 80s.  In 1999 they were touring behind their new album Freedumb.  They play a couple songs songs from it and some classics.  

I feel I might have been standing on the edge of the pit to record this.  There isn't a whole lot of chatter. Been awhile since I listened to this one. It's not too bad. I quite enjoyed the revisit. Enjoy.

I'm a big fan of Big Business and have seen them many times since their 1st tour back in 2005.  This show was part of a bill with Melvins and Secret Chiefs 3.  They were still touring behind their 2007 album "Here Come The Waterworks" but the did play a couple of songs from the then upcoming 2009 album "Mind The Drift"

This was Eugene Robinsons first performance in Denver ever.  He talks about it on this night. He was going to play with Whipping Boy in 1983 but the police shut down the show.  Then in 2017 Oxbow was supposed to play a show but when they got to Denver the show was going on without them and promoter said they were off the bill.  I would love to know where that happened because I know a lot of people would have come out to see Oxbow.  I would have.

I was almost done reading Eugene's Feral House published memoir "A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murderer's Row" when I heard the news that he suffered a stroke.  Scary situation but it sounds like he's on the mend.  I'm sure there is a gofundme for him if you are looking to throw him some support.

This was such a fun show.  Squid Pisser opened with their masked madness and then Buñuel knocked it out of the park.  Great performance and sound.  Solid setlist with an Oxbow song even.  Enjoy.

Supersuckers @ Mammoth Events Center, Denver CO, 1995-09-12

 

Here is another MarcR recording from his DAT archive.  This time an additional set from the night of September 12th 1995.  This show featured Hag Fish, Supersuckers, Reverend Horton Heat, Morphine and Violent Fems.  It was supposed to be two separate shows but they got combined.  Eddie Spaghetti complains about that and the sound in the Mammoth.  It was not great in this era.   The Supersuckers were touring behind "The Sacrilicious Sounds Of The Supersuckers" and had Rick Sims, who played on that album and contributed songs, on tour with them during this time singing and playing guitar.  

The sound on this starts out a bit rough but the vocals are clear through out most of this.  I don't think this has ever been shared and I've never seen many Rick Sims era recordings out there.  So of historical interest to Supersuckers super fans. Enjoy.

Khemmis @ Hi Dive, Denver CO, 2013-12-08

 Here is long running Denver heavy metal band Khemmis live at the Hi Dive back in December of 2013.  They were part of a bill opening for the mighty Church Of Misery.  This was before they even had an album out yet.  Absolution didn't drop until 2015.  There were some demos out and 2 of these songs are from that.  "The Bereaved" shows up on Absolution and I think track 3 is an early version of "Antediluvian".  Khemmis just put out their 5th album.  It is self-titled this time and available in all the usual places.  Great heavy music.

I must have walked in while Khemmis was starting up.  The first song fades in.  Nice sound in the Hi Dive and I really enjoyed revisiting this one.  Short and sweet.  Enjoy.

Here is a new band to me.  I got hipped to these guys by a couple friends in the past few years.  Never really dug in a took a good listen.  They came to the Bluebird in Denver at the beginning of July and one of those friends wondered if I could come record audio of the show.  The Friday show was sold out already so I got Thursday tickets.  I then saw George Cessna's band El Welk was opening so I figured it would probably be good.  The day before the show I listened to their Orange Amps session on YT and started to wonder what I had been doing not listening to these guy already.  They are right in my wheel house.  

The show was great they played the few songs I knew and a bunch more.  We got a couple new songs that I took a guess at the titles and some fun covers of Fred Eaglesmith, Daniel Johnston, & Elvis.  I would 100% go see this band again.  Crowd was pretty chatty, rowdy and loud but my mics were insulated from the worst of that for the most part.  Enjoy.

This time UK band Elastica live at the Mercury Cafe in Denver CO on June 14th 1995.  They were touring behind their debut self-titles album. They played mostly songs from that record with a few deep cuts.  Marc made nice recordings and this one has pretty good sound an minimal crowd noise.  Enjoy.
